Villa Poggio Salvi Rosso di Montalcino 2020
Sangiovese Blends | Italy
Villa Poggio Salvi’s Rosso delivers Brunello-worthy quality at an approachable (and drinkable) price! $16.95 for a sangiovese of this caliber is a monumental steal...don’t miss!
The philosophy of Villa Poggio Salvi is simple… Traditional wines are produced with modern methods. On the South side of Montalcino, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, Poggio Salvi has slowly amassed 21 hectares of prime Montalcino vineyards over the past five decades. Planted entirely to sangiovese grosso (a local sangiovese clone prized in Brunello,) this producer has built quite the reputation over the past few vintages – ever-increasing in quality and critical recognition across their portfolio.
This rosso sees 12 months of aging in Slovenian oak barrels of various sizes before bottling and a brief settling prior to release. Everything is styled bright and fresh, with lively aromatics of ripe cherries, red currants, hibiscus flowers, and more of the same on the palate, plus additions of raspberry coulis and cinnamon/clove spices. Simply a delight to drink and the perfect Italian table wine that you simply can’t find anywhere else! 39% OFF and well under $20 make this the perfect deal to stock up on.
