“This is one of the best young wines I’ve ever tasted from Terre Nere.” - Vinous

Terre Nere began when Pascale Vallone bought a prime vineyard in the warm, coveted southeast part of Montalcino in 1996. It quickly became a family affair with the release of the 2002 vintage, and they’ve been on a roll ever since (feel free to Google the scores over the years). We met them at a wine fair in Italy about 10 years ago, and we are proud to have been one of the very first to bring them into the USA!

Our love for the Vallone family runs deep, and their 2016 Brunello is truly one of the finest in their history. 100% sangiovese with aromas that are just classic Italy – floral, spicy, and earthy with an ample core of red berries. In the mouth, expect more of the same - dusty red cherries, crushed raspberries, red currants, plums, and then notes of sandalwood, allspice, hibiscus tea, and a perfectly balanced acidity. This beauty is perfectly sipping right now, with a shelf life of another decade plus, easily. Every Italian wine lover needs a handful of these in their collection – one sip and you’ll know. A simply unheard-of deal that tops the charts for one of our hottest offers of the year!

About the Producer

Pasquale Vallone has continued to increase the knowledge his father had given him about agriculture at the family farmhouse while also embarking on a career in banking. And thanks to a branch transfer, at the beginning of the 90s, he came into contact with the economic and social life of Montalcino for five years. He created strong bonds of friendship that he still continues to cultivate today, even from a distance. In 1996 during a day of hunting, one of his winemaker friends showed him some land for sale south-east of Montalcino, 15 ha of uncultivated land and woods a real opportunity that Pasquale did not miss. In 1997 the whole family, Pasquale, his wife Piera and Francesca and Federico, the children, planted the first cuttings, an excellent pastime for the weekends. The hectares of vines become 10 in a short time, Pasquale soon spent his whole vacation in this pristine corner of Montalcino. Pasquale found in his brother Gaetano a great help and an excellent cellarman, producing the first Brunello di Montalcino Terre Nere in 2002.

97 Raffaele Vecchione (winescritic.com) -
Fresh and balsamic, it shows a profile rich in identity that certainly does not go unnoticed. Hibiscus flowers and magnolia blend with notes of crumbled stone, white pepper and eucalyptus leaves. Full body, perfectly integrated and polymerized silky tannins and a finish of impressive drinkability and performing lightness. The finish shows a pronounced aftertaste of great pleasure. Best from 2021.
95 James Suckling -
Extremely floral and pretty with rose, lavender, cherry and plum aromas that follow through to a full body with creamy, polished tannins that have a subtle and sumptuous mouth feel. Lovely flavors, too. Drink in 2023 and onwards.

Savory and pure, with perfumed aromatics of dried flowers, red cherry, and dusty earth, the ripe cherry fruit of the 2016 Brunello Di Montalcino Terre Nere Campigli Vallone opens on the mid-palate, giving way to its classic structure, which is focused and linear, with refreshing acid and fine-grained tannins. Drink 2022-2032.
93 Vinous -
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino wafts up pretty flowery perfumes with hints of clove, allspice and dusty black cherries. It’s silky and seamless in the mouth, with an elegant expression of polished red fruits offset by hints of sour citrus and spice, as inner florals amass toward the close. Classically dry and lightly structured, this finishes on refinement and purity but with the potential for medium-term cellaring. This is one of the best young wines I’ve ever tasted from Terre Nere.
90 Wine Enthusiast -
Aromas of violet, leather and underbrush lead the nose. The forward, juicy palate offers mature black cherry, white pepper and cinnamon alongside polished tannins. Drink through 2029
