About the Producer
This is a father and two sons operation located directly outside of the village of Barbaresco. Marco Rocca, a humble man with a lifetime of experience in winemaking, runs a classic winery producing down-to-earth wines, and working in his vineyards, producing grapes of the highest quality, indeed the family for many years sold their grapes to none other than Angelo Gaja!

Heady scents of iris, violet, wild berry and crushed aromatic herb lead the nose on this fragrant red along with whiffs of new leather and underbrush. Full bodied and delicious, the firm palate features juicy Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, baking spice and star anise framed in youthfully assertive, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2023–2030.

The 2017 Barbaresco is a fabulous wine in its peer group. Rich and boisterous, the 2017 is a Barbaresco of real impact. I suppose the 2017 is not as finessed as some recent editions, but there is a spirit of authenticity that is so attractive. Big, burly tannins wrap around a core of intense red fruit, chalk, cinnamon, mint and white pepper notes. The heady, substantial finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. I suggest opening the 2017 well in advance.
