Adelaide Thomas Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Valley 2021

This is one of our more insane deals. Hoping you won’t get too spoiled, because we can’t find small-production Sonoma Cabernet at this insane price every week. This tastes ultra-fresh and intensely pretty. Ready to drink now, and serious enough to set aside an extra six bottles to evolve.  

Adelaide Thomas is a tiny operation. Owner Elizabeth Pollock and her husband Chad fell into winemaking a few years ago when they were looking to escape San Francisco’s cold summers and bought a 42-acre mountain property in Sonoma County with an old winery on it. They make the wines with the help of friends and mentors. The 2021 fruit was sourced from an undisclosed, organically farmed vineyard in Sonoma Valley, an inland appellation that’s generally warmer than the Sonoma Coast but cooler than Napa.

The nose is tangy, extracted, mouthwatering, like crushed red and black currants right against their skins. There’s a little tobacco and tomato leaf and a whisper of minerals. All of this carries seamlessly into the palate, where it gets a punch of grippy tannin. We love the green olive note running under the concentrated, pure, magenta-bright fruit. This is very nice right out of the bottle, but worth taking the time to uncoil it a little in the decanter – and bring out that caramel-mocha on the finish! Decanting may seem outré for the price, but remember, it's actually a $55 wine. Shaking our heads in proud disbelief as we send this out to you. Go get it!
