Ok....when, WHEN do you get an opportunity to save a full $95+ per bottle on an utterly stunning, high-scoring Napa cab? Well…how does today sound? Yes! Heir Apparent – a Napa producer that has quietly, stealthily made over-performing wines for years, using the very same fruit that Napa’s most cult-y producers use for their $250+++ bottlings…and we scored their beyond impressive 2021 Stags Leap District cabernet sauvignon! Let’s go!

Heir Apparent is the type of wine Napa’s insiders know well...but its reach beyond the verdant Napa Valley is super limited – being such a small production project that focuses on exceptional grapes from tippy-top vineyards. let’s just say their sources are protected by the typically fierce and ironclad NDAs…but trust us, you’d know these sites, these wineries, and the legendary winemakers that have built their reputations on this top-notch fruit.

Let’s start with a lovely 93 POINTS from Robert Parker’s own heir apparent (you know, before she set up her own shop), the one and only Lisa Perotti-Brown! She might not throw out the 100-pointers as Parker did, but her palate is top-notch, and her review is one you should certainly scope below. She’s dead on – calling out this wine’s almost Bordeaux-esque sensibility. That seems to be the style of the impeccable 2021 vintage here in Napa – old school and tightly wound expressions of cabernet that showcase a firm and linear backbone, lean and bright freshness, and incredibly layered complexities that just might make this one of the very best vintages ever once it is all said and done. We know a lot of winemakers who agree, and the stunning balance of cool, yet ripe berries, alongside plenty of warm earthy minerals, with pretty florals, and layers of spices and herbs – well, it has us simply loving this wine both for what it is, and most assuredly what it will come to be in a few years! Over $95 off means you should get a couple of these yourself…you can thank us later.

About the Producer

Napa Valley is known for its diverse microclimates and terroirs, which offer Our Team an incredible Palate of flavors and aromas to work with. Heir Apparent seizes this opportunity by producing special releases of wines from different appellations, each with its distinct identity.
For wine enthusiasts, these special releases are a true delight. Whether it’s an Oakville CABERNET SAUVIGNON, a Spring Mountain District Cabernet Franc, or any other appellation, Heir Apparent’s winemaking team expertly captures the essence of the region in each bottle.

93 The Wine Independent -
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District features scents of warm cassis, wild blueberries, and mulberries plus touches of garrigue, menthol, and graphite. The medium to full-bodied palate has an approachable frame of grainy tannins and bright acidity supporting the vibrant black fruit flavors, finishing on a minty note.
92 Jeb Dunnuck -
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Heir Apparent Stags Leap District showed beautifully, with a pure, elegant, classic Stags Leap style in its cassis and black raspberry fruit as well as floral and mineral-like nuances. I love its overall balance and purity, and it has nicely integrated acidity and outstanding length.
92 James Suckling -
Aromas of blackberries, currants, stones and baking spices on the nose. Medium body with fine tannins. Spices and herbs mingle with berries and currants on the mid-palate. Lively and straightforward with a vivid finish with some length. Better after 2025.
