The Vice American Paradox Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2017

Cabernet Blends  |  US

We love it when a plan comes together. After enough cajoling, we got a bit of this 100% cabernet, aged in new French oak for 17 months, and of course a STEAL for this level of cabernet. Malek has crafted one of those “Pour me another glass, quickly…” types of lush cabernets – rich and polished, lush with boysenberry compote, tobacco leaf, Asian spice, pipe tobacco, vanilla bean, and warm chocolate. It’s round and soft and terribly easy to love.

Wondering about the name? In his own words: “In the early '90s, wine was promoted as a key element of a healthy diet under the term French Paradox. To most, a daily glass of wine blessed them with a lifetime of recreation and pleasure. To me, a daily bottle of wine suavely aligned me in a lifelong path in which wine is my livelihood, my passion, and my #1 Vice”. -Malek Amrani

About the Producer

"The Vice is for the days meant to be dreamt, life to be lived and work, to be enjoyed." (Vice Website) This is the moto heald by the team at the Vice Wines which was founded by the husband and wife team, Malek Amrani and Tori Greenberg. Winemaker Malek Amrani is originally from Morocco, a successful entrepreneur, a level 3 sommelier, and a 2019 Team USA Triathlon athlete while his wife is responsible for all things visual and branding for Vice. Their wines come from sustainable vineyards in the Napa Valley, in most cases single varietal wines and priced very competitively against other wineries in the valley for the same quality.

92 James Suckling -
A rich nose with plenty of cedary oak influence across ripe blackcurrants. The palate is almost salty and has a minerally, slightly smoky thread of black fruit and a firm, succulent finish. Try from 2024.
91 Wine Spectator -
On the frankly ripe side of the ledger, with steeped plum, raspberry and boysenberry notes, laced liberally with licorice and sweet spice accents. Fairly toasty, but the fruit remains in control throughout the finish. For fans of the style. Drink now through 2024. 420 cases made.
