Andy Erickson’s impact is astounding: More than 25 perfect 100-point scores. Well over 500 wines rated 95 to 99 points. The smartest way to get him on your shelf and taste the magic? His 92-point Leviathan. We have it for just $29.95.

Amazingly, the scores we mentioned are just for his more well-known work for Screaming Eagle, To Kalon, Dalla Valle, Arietta, and Favia. Andy has done so much more – and he doesn’t want to be confined to elite $250+ bottles. So, in 2004, he created Leviathan, his beloved blockbuster blend. He uses his vineyard connections and blending prowess to make one singular, crushable red per year. Something fun yet impressive you can drink up with friends, pizza, and Dune: Part Two. The grape types and vineyard sources shift at whim every year, and like the multi-headed sea monster of primordial power, the chaos is highly effective!

This 2022 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Petit Verdot pulled from Sonoma, Lake, and Napa counties – including the excellent Faust Vineyard in Coombsville. The structure feels cinematic on the tongue, and the flavors are rich and scrumptious. Dark Luxardo cherries, pipe tobacco, plums, and black tea pull you down into the depths, then gentle acid and rose petals lift everything up into the light. Robert Parker gave this bottle 92 points and captured the vibe: “A fun, easy-drinking wine at a regular-person price.” Don’t we all need more of those?

It’s $40 at the winery (very reasonable, considering who made it), but under $30 right now with us. Capture this Leviathan while you can!

About the Producer

Leviathan was founded in 2004 by winemaker Andy Erickson, former winemaker of Screaming Eagle. The goal was simple: to create one unique red wine per year, drawn from some of the best vineyards in Northern California. The resulting bottling is a full-bodied wine with a character all of its own – a rich, distinctly Californian red that embodies Erickson’s love of blending and his belief in drinkability.

92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Surprisingly, the 2022 Leviathan Red Wine may outshine the 2021 vintage. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petite Sirah, 6% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Syrah and 2% Petit Verdot, it's loaded with black cherries and cassis. Still not overly complex, it's a big, full-bodied and crowd-pleasing red wine that proves you don't need to have residual sugar or use Mega Purple to fill this niche. Velvety textured, fruit forward and long on the finish, it's a fun, easy-drinking wine at a regular-person price.
91 Jeb Dunnuck -
The 2022 Red Wine comes from a mix of Napa, Sonoma, Lake County, and is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petite Sirah, 6% Merlot, 3% Syrah, 3% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot. Red and black fruits, leafy herbs, cedarwood, and truffly earth notes all emerge on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, solid balance, and outstanding length.
