Famed 100 point winemaker Julien Fayard does it again! This time, with a red Bordeaux blend called Cultivar, named after the word used to describe a grape variety selected for its desirable characteristics. It’s another one of his silky, complex, and age-worthy masterpieces that we’ve scored for a simply delightful price.

Julien is one of the most prolific winemakers in Napa Valley. He grew up on a vineyard in France and cut his teeth at places like Chateau Lafite-Rothschild and Smith Haute-Lafitte. His Bordeaux background has propelled his meteoric rise to super-stardom since he moved here to Napa – and this is a wine that checks all the boxes for you thirsty Invino explorers!

Cultivar is from the classic 2019 Napa vintage – revered for its energy, brightness, and amiable approachability. This bottle is a blend of Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot with only 291 cases produced. We snagged all we could, and you’ll surely want to do the same. It’s an inky, dark purple with notes of cassis and plum on the nose, as well as classical Bordeaux expressions of licorice and eucalyptus. The palate is all dark and moody, with black cherries, blackberries, and boysenberry compote with a touch of tobacco and baking spices. Oh my god is it awesome. Julien recommends decanting for a half hour before drinking.
