Stonetree Vineyard is a steeply sloped plot in the Wahluke Slope AVA – one of the driest and warmest spots in Washington’s wine country just east of the Cascade Range. Ice age era alluvial soils and volcanic loam combine to stress the vines, concentrating these meager yields into exceptionally powerful and robust grapes. For zinfandel in particular, this creates a decidedly dark fruit profile, with spice and depth you might expect from some seriously old vines in California’s Dry Creek Valley, but rarely found elsewhere in North America! 

But the wine! This beauty broods and stamps with a powerful nose of jammy blackberries and fresh cherry pie, plus blood orange, black pepper, nutmeg, and clove. The mouthfeel is luscious, but soft, with notes of fig paste, more blackberry, baked strawberries, and the feeling of warm, sun-baked clay. Perfectly aged and drinking in the prime of its life, this is a new discovery for us. One sip and we get why over 40 different producers clamor for the fruit of this vineyard every year!
