This is a Sexy Wine.

And I'm not just saying that for the label's sake. Zin is a grape that is always a tantalizing affair in my mind, something with rich complexity that brings a wide range of layers and characteristics to the table. That's what I found in the Zinphomaniac, and exactly why I decided it to offer it here. Zin fans rejoice, you're going to be stoked on this bottle.

Backstory here. At the prestigious SF Chronicle Int'l Wine Competition, (i.e. the largest competition of American wines in the world), we got wind of a Zin that was "knock-your-socks-off good". With a critical eye and palate, our Sourcing Manager sought out a glass to see for himself. The verdict: Yep! It's that wine Zin-fanatics are always on a quest for. An arousing Reserve, old-vine , it embodies exactly what one expects from the best appellations in Sonoma County.

The Cool Factors:
The terroir here is considered top tier and best place to grow Old Vine Zinfandel.  And while Old vines aren't a requirement for a great Zinfandel, it definitely can go a long way to creating one - like here.

Focused on quality over quantity, this boutique production has been earning impressive critical acclaim, including the Gold Medal at the 2017 SF Chronicle International Wine Competition and 90 points and Editors' Choice from Wine Enthusiast.

TASTING NOTES 

A harmonious expression of dark fruits and subtle nuances from 12 months of French and American oak aging. Deep red in color with a great mouth feel, our Reserve Zinfandel exudes aromas of tobacco, cola, plum and clove. Wild raspberry, plum, cherry and molasses flavors are complemented by white pepper, anise and clove flavors on the spicy lingering finish.

Our Reserve Zin-phomaniac draws on the county’s best appellations for Zinfandel, including Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, Sonoma Valley and Russian River Valley. Although each of these regions produces Zinfandel grapes with unique characteristics, they share the warm days and cool nights associated with the marine influence of the Pacific Ocean and San Pablo Bay. However, a variety of soils and distinct microclimates provide our winemaker with a varied palette from which to blend our Reserve, resulting in a complex, full-throttle, lavishly-spiced wine with an abundance of bold, briary fruit.

This wine goes well with anything from rack of lamb, grilled steak to venison. Accompany any of these hearty meat dishes with a fruit-based marinade for the perfect pairing.
