"One of the more striking wines in this range, the 2014 Zinfandel Old Vine is absolutely gorgeous. Dark cherry, plum, sweet tobacco, menthol, licorice and spices hit the palate as this flamboyant, juicy Zinfandel shows off its personality. This is one of the best wines I have tasted from winemaker Randle Johnson. Best of all, the Old Vine is a superb value"- Vinous

The 2014 Old Vine Zin from Artezin is a killer wine at this price, fun and juicy with great balance, solid structure and fresh fruit that lasts.  Black cherry, plum and cassis blend with bramble, incense and black pepper, with solid tannin and a bright acidity all blend well and last through the long finish.  Enjoy now through 2022. - DZ Jan 2017

For our Members who love a classic CA Zin, this deep and dark Old Vine sensation explodes with cherry and enjoys a finishing layer of intense pepper. Identified as richer than its previous vintages our Tasting Panel noted it as a “pure expression of its varietal.” As it should be! This vintage is sourced from a region where Zinfandel thrives and as its label suggests, it is crafted by the Zin masters who are creating “the art of Zin” with a very impressive style.

One of the best Old Vine Zins around, this vintage’s roots are deeply ingrained in the history of, well, ZIN! The sustainably farmed family vineyards were planted by Italian immigrants more than a century ago. And these people dedicated their lives and craft to classic Zinfandel. Today, Artezin is carrying on the tradition and showing us how “classic” and “classy” never goes out of style.

Reasons why we love it
“This is one of the best wines I have tasted from winemaker Randle Johnson,” says Antonio Galloni who awarded the vintage 91 points. This statement says a lot as the renowned winemaker, and California native, has a beautifully painted history within the industry including two years at Stags’ Leap and 20 years crafting award winning Cabernet Sauvignon for The Hess Collection. He has also earned the playful nickname of “The Wine Doctor” and has been Artezin’s only winemaker since the label’s founding. Ask this winegrowing expert why he enjoys the Zin varietal, and you will get the response: “Because this stuff is awesomely cool.”

Bravo Mr. Johnson! This wine is “awesomely cool” reaping the benefits of a harvest that ran ahead of schedule and produced amazing fruit. 2014 in Mendocino is certainly a vintage to remember and Randle Johnson took precise care to showcase the clean, ripe and concentrated fruit the year gave him.

So, grab yourself a richly-sauced pasta and enjoy this top-notch Zin of superb value. It doesn’t get more Zin-loving than this.

Deep, dark vermillion red cast of the wine, tinged with indigo blue hues. The aroma is classic, dominated by cherry, pomegranate and boysenberry. As expected, there’s a fine layer of white and black pepper. Flavors are abundant and very 'zinny’ led by raspberry surrounded in a spicy sea of cloves, cinnamon and allspice. As you taste the wine you’ll experience a plush, full, well-rounded mouthfeel that is coated with fine grained tannins and a lingering, memorable finish. I make this wine for immediate enjoyment, but the acid backbone and well balanced structure will allow for aging for at least another four years, perhaps longer.

Artezin Zinfandel is hand crafted from grapes grown in some of California's best Zinfandel regions: Napa Valley, Amador County, Sonoma County and Mendocino County. Artezin expresses terroir and rich varietal fruit with lively and complex elegance.
