"The 2012 Yaso is 100% Tinta de Toro aged six months in French oak. It boasts a dense ruby/purple color as well as a big, sweet perfume of blackberries, white chocolate, licorice and graphite. Full-bodied and opulent, it offers a fresh, full, exuberant mouthful of red wine with some minerality as a result of the high-elevation limestone soils from which the grapes emerge. It should drink well for a minimum of 4-5 years."- Wine Advocate
The 2012 Yaso Red sees just enough time in oak to mellow the tannins and round out the fruit profile. The nose is ripe and round, with dark berries and graphite, all floating over a gentle cedar base. The palate is layered and soft with ripe plum, bright acids, and some warm leather on the finish. A supple texture and lasting finish keep you coming back for more. Enjoy now through 2020. - DZ Feb 2017
Stellar ratings from acclaimed critics (93 from Robert Parker and 94 from Weekly Wine Journal) for a wine from a Spanish producer known to consistently deliver incredible value for exceptional quality wine that will appeal to a multitude of big, red fans. Wine lovers are always on the hunt for a collusion just like this, so it seems the stars have aligned in the 2012 Yaso Red Toro Tempranillo.
Yaso is a really nice big and well-rounded wine made from 100% Tempranillo (Tinta de Toro) from a single vineyard on the Yaro farm in the D.O. of Toro in north west Spain. Winemaking tradition in Toro dates back even before the Roman domination, more than 2,000 years ago. From the beginning the Tinta de Toro variety has produced great red wine that is full of flavor and complexity: powerful and full bodied with great tannins. The Toro D.O. region has earned a reputation for powerful and muscular Tempranillo wines, yet Yaso gracefully departs from that paradigm with a more gentle and sophisticated expression.
The wine opened up nicely after decanting for an hour. The nose is really pleasant; blackberry with a hint of cherry pie, yet grassy with a little mint and clove augmenting its complexity. The palate is medium to full, and the flavors mingle nicely with exuberant blackberry, red licorice, a little spice, and even a little chocolate. Very nice texture on the back end gives the wine a nice weighty mouth-feel reminiscent of the “Rutherford dust” from a Napa Cab. This wine finishes strong and pleasantly permeates the mouth as it lingers. This is a Cabernet lover’s Tempranillo.
In Greek Mythology, the Goddess Yaso, also known as Panacea, is known for health and healing. So heal what ails you and toast to good health with this seductive wine that, at this ridiculously low price, will make you giddy as if you’ve gotten away with something.
Intensity medium high. Red cherry with garnet hints. Clean and shiny. Nose: Good intensity, fruits are predominant, reminding of cherries, morello cherries and berries marmelade. Flowery violet tones, mixed with spice, mentol, balsamic aromas and black liquorice. Mouth: pleasant attack and balance. Fresh sensations with volume. Fruity and noble wood hints, together with spice, coffee and liquorice in the back nose.

This would pair well with Thai beef salad, marinated Korean BBQ pork, Peking duck and meat or chicken dishes with a piquant play of spices.
