Ribera del Duero, Spain
The philosophy behind this exemplary Spanish red is to take the finest Tempranillo fruit, sourced from extremely low yielding vineyards planted 40 years ago—or more, and then micro-select once more only the most perfect specimens among the clusters at the sorting table with an eye for the best of what is already pretty much the best source fruit imaginable.
Just entering its peak, this 2009 Lecco Reserva was aged for 18 months in barrel before additional maturation in the cellars of Resalte de Peñafiel. It makes an unforgettable table companion for a traditional Spanish feast especially albondigas (meatballs) en salsa.
· The 2009 vintage got 92 points in this part of Spain from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and 91 points from the Wine Enthusiast.
· The region of Ribera del Duero is one of Spain’s oldest. The first grape vines were planted here by Cistercian monks who traveled here from France and settled in the region in the 1100s.
· Established in 2000, Resalte de Peñafiel is one of Spain’s great, modern estates and a winery that combines state-of-the-art winemaking equipment and super traditional methods to produce modern, complex, balanced wines.
· Spain’s most significant gift to the wine world is its most elegant red wine grape, the indigenous Tempranillo. It makes an appearance in all red Rioja and Ribera del Duero and Navarra. And while it is the most important variety in Rioja and Ribera del Duero, it is generally blended with other grapes to moderate Tempranillo’s naturally low acidity.
This medium bodied wine has hints of spice, raspberry, and vanilla.
*invino maintains excellent cellaring conditions, and strives to sell every bottle in pristine condition. As is standard industry practice, any wine purchased over seven vintage years old, is sold "as is" and may not be returned for any reason.
From the winery:
Bodegas Resalte de Peñafiel , belongs to the Denomination of Origin Ribera del Duero , located in Peñafiel, and stands out from its beginnings for the production of high quality wines.
We started the production of wines in the year 2000, perfectly combining traditional methods with the use of optimal technological solutions, which allows us to produce modern and complex wines.
All our wines are made one hundred percent with the Tempranillo variety, native to the area, from which we extract exquisite notes of fruit that mark each of our wines with their own identity.
Each vineyard has its own personality and we take that to its ultimate consequences, the serene expression of the vineyard in the wine. The balance expressed by our wines is nothing more than the result of dedication, care and work that we develop in the vineyards and later in the winery.
We control 80 hectares of vineyards, from different areas of the Ribera del Duero, which allows us a greater complexity in the grape, by having vineyards of different heights, orientation and soil type.
The whole harvest is done manually and in boxes of 15 kilos. The staff that carries out the harvest selects at first the bunches that are in perfect conditions of maturity and sanitary state, and later, upon entering the winery a new selection of bunches is made.
When the vintage arrives at the winery, the grapes are immediately processed, passing to a ribbon where each cluster is selected again. Afterwards, the grapes are taken up by a ribbon to the destemmer located above the ovi, which is the small steel deposit where we are going to transport the harvest and later the wine.
In each deposit we separate different types of grapes, which will be worked individually to get the best possible wine from each one. This elaboration aims to produce aging wines that express the work done in the vineyard, fine wines, complex and elegant.
The aging of our wines takes place in a large dark and silent room, where automatic systems control temperature and humidity.
The control over the climatic parameters allows us to maintain the ideal aging conditions of our wines regardless of the time of year: the rhythm is always constant.
In a few years we have become a new benchmark for wines of the highest quality within the DO Ribera del Duero.
This is an extremely food friendly wine. Pair this with paella or any Spanish-inspired dish.
