94pts, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion
Good hit of fruit and a decent hit of tannin. Flavour and integrity. Pepper, clovers, gun smoke and a sizeable round of blackberry. It's designed to be consumed nowish but there's every indication that this will hold and even improve over the medium term.

We’re pivoting down under this Wine Wednesday for a 94pt McLaren Vale Shiraz. As you’ve likely gathered from our previous musings, we're certainly fans of grilling fare during the summer months (who isn’t, really). When there's a nice smokey brisket, rack of ribs or even just a good ‘ol steak off the grill with a bit of char that's ready to devour, a juicy, spicy glass of Shiraz is oftentimes what we’re craving. So today, Aussie Shiraz it is! For only $15 too!!

Chapel Hill Winery was first planted in 1972 and took over the historic Seaview Chapel built in 1865. Though the church was in use for 100 years, it shut its doors in the 1965. That is until Thomas Nelson discovered the crumbling site and worked to renovate the stone building into a functioning winery, office and tasting room. Though the business changed hands a few times since, with new owners the Schmidheiny family at the helm since 2000, Chapel Hill has pivoted into a world-class winery with plenty to offer.

Bursting with generous fruit and spice, there’s rich notes of mulberries, plums and blackberries with hints of exotic spice, fennel seed, pepper, smoke and clove. Grippy tannins and a mouthcoating finish.

A bargain at $15 that’s for sure. $90 a 6-pack with shipping included. Get those grills ready!

THE STORY TO KNOW

Chapel Hill Winery was built on the site of the historic Seaview Chapel. The Chapel was built in 1865 and now serves as our winery tasting room. The first vines were planted at Chapel HIll in 1972 and the first vintage was in 1975.

Now under the guidance of winemakers Michael Fragos and Bryn Richards, Chapel Hill srives to hand craft wines with purity and balance. All of the grapes and wines are handled gently, in small batches to ensure that the wonderful site and varietal character are nurtured and respected.
