Lifted nose of ripe fruit, flower, fresh leather and tar follow through a tight and concentrated center palate of dark fruits and a ultra-fine tannins. Linear and very fine grained. Impressive. Better in 2020. -James Suckling
Chalky raspberry on the nose. Cranberry, black cherry, cassis, aniseed and eucalyptus, with a dash of mint through the finish. Excellent. 93 Points - JZ Oct '18

Syrah (or Shiraz, as it’s down in Australia) craves the frequent sunshine and moderate temps of the Mediterranean basin. Turns out the best Mediterranean climate on Earth is nowhere near the Mediterranean. At least, that’s what denizens of Australia’s McLaren Vale will tell you. After sampling this killer Shiraz, we’re apt to believe them!
PF stand for preservative free. In fact, it’s hard to imagine a more naturally produced wine than this certified biodynamically grown and certified organically made Shiraz. With source fruit this perfect, why cloud it with anything extra? Down Under superstar winemaker Peter Fraser fermented this beauty with wild yeasts only after a cold soak to maintain the fruit’s wildly vibrant lilac scent and purple berry flavor, and then bottled it with zero fining or filtration, making for a wholly unadulterated, astoundingly complex Shiraz. “Impressive,” says James Suckling, who gave this red 94 points.
· The excellent 2016 vintage for McLaren Vale Shiraz was rated 92-95 points by the Wine Spectator.
· Sourced from Yangarra’s certified biodynamic and certified organic, single vineyard and grown without herbicides, fungicides or synthetic chemicals of any kind and without sulfur additions, too.
· The first vines were planted at Yangarra Estate in 1946. In 2000, Jess Jackson and his wife Barbara Banke (proprietors of Jackson Family Wines) purchased the estate along with the property’s ancient bush vines.
· Jackson appointed local oenologist Peter Fraser as winemaker, Wine Companion’s 2016 Winemaker of the Year.
From the winery:
It's bright and stimulating, but not light in any way other than mood - its tannins will see it cellar longer than, say, any nouveau Beaujolais, but as a young wine it's just as carefree in attitude. It's intense, dark and perhaps like fresh soft liquorice in a way. This is pure, audacious, open-hearted fun.
From the winery:

A heavy and savory meat dish would be the perfect pairing with this wine.
