The 2014 Tiki Sound Sauv Blanc out of Marlborough is a crisp and classic wine with gooseberry, lemongrass and plentiful tree fruit.  The palate is bone dry with lemon zest acidity and lingering finish.  All the usual elements are present here, perfect as an everyday white option through these chilly months.  Enjoy now through 2018. - DZ Nov 2016

Wipe that kitchy vision of a 1950’s Tiki bar right out of your mind.  Now replace it with the beautiful Maori tradition of bestowing good fortune and love on others with the token of a hand carved gift, or Tiki.  New Zealander Royce McKean and his wife Sue craft their wines with this spirit in mind and named Tiki Wine and Vineyards to honor his great-great grandfather, a Ngati Uenuku chieftain. However, McKean was not always so in tune with his native ancestry. It took a brush with death in an avalanche to bring the wisdom of his Maori ancestors into crystal clarity. Since that time the ancient guiding principles of Kaitiakitanga – guardianship, protection, and preservation of the earth – have led him to create a modern winery that is committed to quality and sustainable winegrowing in concert with a reverence for the land.

This crisp, dry and delicious Tiki Sound comes from Marlborough, a New Zealand region that first gained notoriety for its world class Sauvignon Blanc in the late 20th Century. Located at the northern tip of South Island, this expansive growing area has a welcoming climate for Sauvignon Blanc. Then consider that Tiki’s vineyards, planted 10-20 years ago, are now in their prime producing perfectly ripened grapes. There you have it: you’ve discovered the McKean’s recipe for success. In this 2014 Tiki Sound vintage, the punchy aromatics are spot on and the wine sets itself apart with grassy herbaceous notes. Colloquially known as Marlborough “Savvy,” the refreshing acidity and ripe, straightforward flavors of this New Zealand export have captured the hearts of Sauvignon Blanc lovers everywhere.

The tropical fruit and herbal notes of the 2014 Tiki Sound Sauvignon Blanc will bring out the flavors in a broad bean and goat cheese salad and flawlessly complement a serving of grilled asparagus with Hollandaise, but our personal ideal pairing would involve a dozen Bluff oysters with dill and lime vinaigrette.

The wisdom of the Maori people can be found in their whakatauki, or proverbs. Here is one that we hope will resonate with you as you sip a glass of 2014 Tiki Sound Sauvignon Blanc: “Whaia te iti kahurangi  ki te tuoho koe me he maunga teitei.” Translation: “Seek the treasure you value most dearly: if you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain.”


Pale straw green.Tropical fruit aromas of peach, melon and passionfruit. Underlying aromas of grapefruit and gooseberry add zingy, citrusy notes combine with hints of capsicum.The ripe, full flavours and tight structure of the palate reflect the intrinsic attributes of the Upper Wairau Valley vineyards. Blending the best fruit from our three TIKI vineyards has created a spectrum of flavours, from ripe tropical through gooseberry, which is supported by a refreshing acidity and perfectly balanced residual sugar.

To reflect this reverence for the land of his great-great-grandfather, Ngati Uenuku chieftain Tiki Tere Mihi, Royce and wife Sue named TIKI Wine & Vineyards in his honour.
