"Always one of Marlborough’s top Sauvignon Blancs, made by former Cloudy Bay winemaker Kevin Judd. It has gentle tropical and citrus aromas and flavours, and the complex layers mean that each sip reveals a little more. A very stylish wine". -Decanter
"A wallflower when compared to other, more aggressively aromatic Kiwi Sauvignon Blancs, this wine offers hints of citrus, stone fruit, flowers and grass on the nose. The palate is of most interest here: It's linear and chalky yet slippery in feel, with a fair lick of acidity that's just barely balanced by fruit and florals". - Wine Enthusiast
Fresh Aussie Sauv Blanc Means Summer Has Arrived.
It took me, as with many of you out there, a couple years to realize I love white wines just as much as reds. One of my favorite whites? A crisp Sauvignon Blanc, cool to the touch, and refreshing as soon as it hits the lips. Whether it's Sancerre, a Kiwi or, in this case, a hearty Aussie, it's a grape that quickly rose in the depths of my flavor profile.
Nose-tingling citrus flowers pop out on the aromas. On the palate, slightly grassy with nice surge of lime and lemon rind. Ripe acidity, this one is fresh off the boat. We bought all we could from the importer. Not to worry, more arriving at the end of the month ;) 92 Points - JZ June '18
Marlborough, New Zealand
This is everything we’ve come to adore about New Zealand’s crip, refreshing Sauvignon Blancs: an “expressive, clean and correct” (Parker) wine by Kevin Judd, the man who pioneered the style that put New Zealand on the global winemaking on the map.
- Greywacke is consistently pedigreed as one of Marlborough’s top Sauvignon Blancs, unmistakably embodying the essence of the region.
- When he was starting out at Cloudy Bay Winery, Kevin Judd did much to tone down the intense, bell peppery herbaceous character so typical of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc up to that time and created the very dry but very aromatic style that the rest of the world fell in love with.
- Now, years later, Judd’s Greywacke project is taking that character to a whole new level of stylish expression--this is a sexy Sauvignon Blanc with soft tropical fruits and citrus aromas and multiple layers, each sip whispering just a little bit more . . .
- And a lower yield for the 2017 vintage makes this all the more so, as it ensures the vibrant, fruit-driven dryness Greywacke is known for.
A delicious combination of ripe summer fruits and delicate floral perfume-citrus blossom and elderflower entwined with nectarines and white peaches, mandarin and cantaloupe with a twist of lemon. Intensely flavored, succulent and crisp with a delicate herbal infusion - quintessential Marlborough.
From the winery:
One of Marlborough’s pioneering winemakers, Kevin Judd’s appreciable career is intrinsically linked with the global path of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Kevin’s personal venture, Greywacke (pronounced “grey-wacky”), was unveiled in 2009, fulfilling a long-held dream for himself and wife Kimberley.
Named after New Zealand’s prolific bedrock, Greywacke was originally adopted as the name of the Judds’ first vineyard in Rapaura, whose soils had an abundance of these river stones. Now living in the Omaka Valley overlooking Marlborough’s striking patchwork of vines, Kevin sources fruit from mature vineyards in the central Wairau Plains and the Southern Valleys.
Alongside winemaking, Kevin’s talent for photography has seen his evocative images appear in countless publications worldwide, and inevitably, take pride of place on the labels of his solo winemaking venture –– the synthesis of his dual passions.
This fresh and bright wine will pair perfectly with any summer dish. Try it with a salad with a citrus dressing, any seafood, or Asian cuisine.
