Our newest addition to the Loire portfolio, Domaine Bonnard Sancerre, is a wonderfully expressive wine that embodies the fresh and complex profile of the region very well. Expect bright lemon and lime on the nose with layers of lychee and peach pit. The wine soft and pleasant on the palate, with lovely mid palate fruit and a bracing acidity on the finish. An all around classy wine that is perfect for pairing with lunch or dinner and is sure to please your guests. Enjoy now through 2019. DZ Jul 2017
Wine Enthusiast called Sancerre Sauv Blanc “concentrated grapes and good aromatic expression.” Damn right. The fine 2017 season enjoyed nearly ideal weather conditions and put grins on every face in the vineyard. The 2017 Bonnard Sancerre shows off with minerality, fresh fruit flavors, and zesty acid.
Why we love it:
- This family vineyard has over 50 years of experience. In the heart of Sancerre, Domaine Bonnard offers up a meeting place, where wine tasting is a social event and an opportunity to share their love of the land. They made our sourcing team feel especially welcome as they shared their wines and their passion.
- As one New York wine buyer put it in the Wall Street Journal, “It's difficult for people not to have a soft spot for Sancerre." There really is nothing quite like Sancerre. The world-famous appellation sits on France’s Atlantic Coast and has come to be synonymous with Sauvignon Blanc. Let’s just say the region’s crisp whites wear their terroir on their sleeve, standing out for their unmistakable varietal expression and restrained elegance. They’re also some of the wine world’s great values -- just compare their prices with those of white Burgundies or white Bordeaux.
Fun Fact: Domaine Bonnard has been around since 1951, but only really started to hit its stride in the 1990’s when it began overhauling its vineyards and selling increasing amounts of its wine on commercial markets instead of just selling to the local cooperative. It was a smart move; their Sancerre wines have even the French wine critics gushing!
Pale yellow color with green tints. The nose is characterized by the purity and finesse of its floral aromas with notes of broom and white flowers mixed with citrus fruit aromas. After a sharp and mineral attack on the palate, this wine offers a nice balance between freshness and depth.
From the winery:
Our wine farm of 7 hectares is situated 3km away from Pouilly. It is spread out over several different soil types within the appellation. The oldest parcels are in flinty soil, the others are in kimmeridgien marls or clayey-limestone. This is what gives the sauvignon blend its variety of aromas.
Fish tartare, smoked salmon or girolle mushroom omelette will go perfectly with this sancerre's freshness and purity.
