Four reasons:

·      Chile’s Casablanca appellation is rapidly gaining fame as a source of elegant, cool-climate wines.

·      A portion of the wine is also sourced from the Leyda Valley, which is even colder than Casablanca. Wines from this appellation typically show an intense mineral element and awesome acidity.

·      Chile experienced weather conditions that were cooler and damper than usual in 2016, and many in the industry compare the climate in Chile in 2016 and the wines from that vintage as displaying a Bordeaux blanc-like personality.

·      This 100% stainless steel fermented and aged S.B. rested on its lees for three months, a step that adds complexity and depth to the finished wine.

Tasted blind, our Panel was unanimous in proclaiming that this white Bordeaux displayed all of the classic hallmarks of a fine, traditionally hewn Graves blanc. They were totally wrong—at least about one thing. The wine is from Chile’s Casablanca Valley and from a small, heartfelt company bent on doing good in the world, one wine at a time.

Manos del Sur works with small family farmers and vintners in Chile’s best appellations with a focus on sustainability and responsible agricultural practices. Their 2016 Sauvignon Blanc sourced primarily from Casablanca with a percentage of Lyeda Valley fruit for an added mineral note is undeniably French-styled with zero oak and a flinty, crisp profile. Notes of fresh cut grass and gooseberries lend a Sancerre-like feel to the aromatic profile, while the palate is firmly Bordeaux blanc and made for the table. Drink with fish, chèvre or roasted chicken.
