93pts, James Suckling
The oyster-shell, cherry and spicy character is prevalent here. Full-bodied, layered and focused. Dense center palate. Light bitter aftertaste. Juicy fruits. Complex. Drink or hold.

90pts, Wine Spectator
Bright cherry, currant, floral and mineral aromas and flavors highlight this taut, savory red. Tightly bound with the structure, this plays out slowly on the finish. Best from 2022 through 2035. 1,550 cases made, 300 cases imported. — Bruce Sanderson

    Brunello di Montalcino
  • SIZE

Ah Brunello, how we love thee so for thy utter explosion of cherries and acidity. Why are you so delicious? Why do you ask me to open another bottle when the first somehow  mysteriously evaporated in my esophagus? We will never know. What we do know is that we are currently squealing in utter delight over this 93 point Terre Nere Brunello di Montalcino from one of the most prized and mesmerizingly beautiful provenances of Montalcino. Somehow they let us offer it to you for over 50% off. The Italians are sometimes too generous.

The 2013 vintage is one of the most classic expressions of Brunello di Montalcino that the region has seen in years. Ian d’Agata of Vinous calls it “excellent” showing "sleek, refined wines with high acidity, well-integrated tannins." Not to mention the immense ageability of the wines – lay these down for a few more years to really start to see the magic appear.

This wine is luscious and gorgeous, especially for a mere $35 (we’d pay full price for it and that’s definitely saying something! But lucky for you, you don’t have to!). On the nose is a cherry-tastic burst of red, black, white, Bing, dried, whatever you want to name it, cherry! They’re all there! Lots of savory herbs, currants, cherries (naturally) rose petals, cranberries, red plums and juiciness. So complex. Such a long, indulgent finish (this is probably why we had to open a second bottle).

2013 Brunellos are not to be missed and at this price? You’d be a buffoon to not snag a modest parcel for your cellar! Was that too harsh? Sorry, we’re just really looking out for your best interest.

$35, 93pts, over 50% off! Go on then!

Complex notes of various cherries, cranberries, currants, red plums, dried cherries, herbs and rose petals. Juicy mid-palate with a long finish.

The Terre Nere estate stretches over 15 hectares (37 acres), at an elevation of 280 meters, 10 km south-east of Montalcino. Ten hectares (25 acres) are planted in vines near the hamlet of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, on the slopes below the hilltop Castle of Velona. These 10 hectares, including 9 of Sangiovese and 1 of Cabernet Sauvignon, are grown in pruned spur, cordon trained rows with a density of roughly 4500 vines/hectare. The vineyards are nestled in a setting of rare beauty, surrounded by pristine forests and where there is a micro climate ideal for vine cultivation. All the vineyards are in hilly areas and enjoy excellent sun exposure while being embraced by a constantly blowing breeze provided by Monte Amiata and Monte Nero.
