This is one of the best kept secrets of the past six years: “Rosato di Toscana,” Tuscan Rosé, started as a byproduct of Sangiovese over-production but quickly turned into a delicacy in its own right, holding its own as a crisper alternative to the Tuscan giants.

  • Val di Toro’s 2016 Alfa Tauri Rosé had us fawning over a Tuscan Sangiovese that isn’t a part of the holy Tuscan Sangio Triumvirate of Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, or Vina Nobile di Montalcino.
  • Extremely crisp, this Rosé lets the Sangiovese grapes come through strongly, conserving the elegance of Tuscany with its grand structure, which is the defining point of all of the great Tuscan Sangiovese wines.
  • It’s the perfect accompaniment to a light and flavorful Mediterranean lunch, which is very much the vogue in the deep Summer months.
TASTING NOTES

From the winery:

The color is an elegant pink with peach nuances and lively, brilliant reflexes. The intense and inviting aromas are of fresh fruit, primarily strawberry and peach and behind lie some tropical notes of mango and papaya. The taste is fresh and fragrant, with a sapid, mineral central mouth and a pleasant equilibrium between the components.

PERFECT PAIRINGS

This will make an excellent pairing with an seafood dish. We recommend uncorking it next to some shrimp tempura.
