The 2011 Domaine des Fees is classic Cotes du Rhone, with juicy red fruit and a solid structure.  Red cherry, raspberry, red currant and brambly fruit mix with tobacco, leather and black earth on the dry but well rounded palate.  A fresh acidity supports the fruit on the palate, finishing dry with supple and mouth watering tannin.  Stock up and enjoy now through 2019. - DZ Oct 2016

I loved the first box of 12 bottles. I placed a second order and the second box contains bad wines.

Think of this as a Chateauneuf du Pape wearing a Cotes du Rhone mask.

We have sprinkled a little fairy dust into this incredibly special offer for the 2011 Domaine des Fées Côtes du Rhône. Domaine des Fées means a place, or in this case, a vineyard, of fairies, and we’re convinced it is appropriately named for the magic that has touched each bottle. Estate owner, Carole Martinez, likes to believe that all the forest spirits contribute to the wine’s mysterious and dazzling qualities. Whatever the secret, this delightfully-delicious Côtes du Rhône drinks extremely well above its modest price point.

This French beauty possesses the magic of Syrah’s meaty-smoky characteristics, with provocative spice and dense black fruit, and Granache’s cherry lift with a hint of anise. A 50/50 blend of fruit from 20-50 year-old vines produces a taste is fresh, peppery and full of fruit. Aged completely in concrete tanks, the mouthful is rich and round, delivering velvety tannins and a balanced finish with appropriate, medium length.

The 2011 Domaine des Fées Côtes du Rhône is an enchanting blend that is perfect to pair with beef, veal, rich chicken dishes and vegetables. Cool-weather cuisines are a winning match for this wine which, like a sprinkling of fairy dust, will enliven Fall flavors wonderfully.

Things to Know

Domaine des Fées is part of the Les Vignerons D’Estézargues, a renowned co-op near the town of Avignon, which, rather than combining all of the fruit from the different growers to make one wine, Les Vignerons d'Estézargues makes cuvées from the very best plots in addition to practicing natural winemaking. Possibly one of the only co-ops in the world to do so, Les Vignerons D’Estézargues uses no external yeasts, no filtering, no fining and no enzymes during the winemaking process. The 2011 Domaine des Fées Côtes du Rhône is certified sustainable.

The newest cuvee is from a single estate, located just to the west of Lirac, called Domaine des Fees. Bottled separately, there are 1,000 cases for the US market and this blend of equal parts Grenache and Syrah, aged completely in concrete tanks, is stunning. Gorgeous notes of roasted meats, Provencal herbs, sweet black cherry liqueur, and licorice as well as spice jump from the glass of this dense, ruby/purple-tinged wine. Fresh, full-bodied and juicy, with a velvety texture, it is a beauty that would be best drunk over the next 3-4 years.

PERFECT PAIRINGS

Try it with your favorite grilled meat. You could drink it with practically anything from charcuterie to cheese - roast chicken, pork belly, garlicky sausages, grilled lamb - even the Holiday turkey. Delicious with lamb meatballs with fennel and herbes de Provence and pasta; o a pizza, maybe - as we say, practically anything.
