91-94pts Wine Advocate: The 2017 Cotes du Rhone Les Quartz looks to be something special. Full-bodied, concentrated and velvety, it delivers intense fruit notes of ripe raspberries and stone fruit that linger on the finish.

The consistent high quality of this estate's wines makes it a perennial favorite of mine. The 2017s at this address boast an extra level of concentration that must be the result of the vintage's low yields, yet they remain supple and balanced. Although two potentially perfect red Châteauneuf-du-Papes lead the list, don't overlook the various Côtes du Rhône bottlings, which often represent great value, or the white wines, all of which seem better every year.

90-92pts Jeb Dunnuck: ...sports a medium ruby color to go with a beautiful bouquet of framboise, wild strawberries, smoked earth, and spice. It’s medium-bodied, silky, incredibly elegant, and again, displays a Burgundian-like elegance and purity.

Wines from Le Clos du Caillou are Rhône blends at their most intense. Concentrated and richly textured, these organically raised wines capture the spice of older-vine Grenache as grown on the region’s finest terroirs. The estate in Courthézon, in the northeastern part of the Châteauneuf-duPape appellation, boasts a mix of terroirs with a predominance of sand, which gives Caillou wines their silky elegance and fine-grained texture. The estate has been practicing biodynamic viticulture since 2003, and was certified organic in 2010. Caillou’s devotion to the character of the land (through bottling wines according to terroir) and its dedication to organic viticulture has only intensified over the years; this is what makes Caillou one of the leading estates in the southern Rhône.
