Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 92 points
“A blend of 70% Merlot and the rest equal parts Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine has an opaque purple color and a sweet nose of vanillin, roasted coffee beans, chocolate and kirsch liqueur intermixed with blacker fruits such as cassis. It is rich, full-bodied, moderately tannic, but low in acidity and quite heady and powerful (15% natural alcohol). This impressive wine is a big, back-strapping effort to drink over the next 15+ years.
Produced by Sylvie Pourquet, the sister of Gerard and Dominique Becot, this St.-Emilion grand cru classe comes from a 35-acre vineyard that consistently makes top flight wines, but I don’t think they have ever made one as impressive as their 2009.”

We direct-imported this small parcel (thus the superb price!) of what many savvy Bordeaux drinkers think of as a no-brainer purchase year after year. Grand-Pontet is well-known to terrifically overdeliver and this wine, now at a solid 12 years of age, is SINGING. It’s truly at peak, and we can’t say enough at this price with this kind of provenance! Don’t miss!
Since 1980, the Grand Cru Classe estate has been owned by the Becot family, who are also owners of Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot, La Gomerie, and Joanin Becot. The estate spans 36 acres of vines and is planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon with vines averaging 35 years old. Just read the review!
