"Sunny berry aromas give way to focused black cherry and dark-chocolate flavors that ride a richly tannic texture in this full-bodied wine. Made from a blend based on Zinfandel and Carignane grapes, it delivers ample complexity and depth".
An amalgamation of flavor, this is a great wine for the big-red lover in your life. Between the spicy Zin and juicy Carignan, this wine brings it all together for a savory sip-fest. I met with Trinitas not long ago, and this was one of the standouts from their presentation. Indeed, between this and their Cab (coming soon), I'm confident you'll find yourself as much a fan of the winery as I am. 92 Points - JZ June '18
40% Old Vine Zinfandel, 37% Carignane, 11% Old Vine Mataro, 10% Old Vine Petite Sirah, and 2% Alicante Bouchet
Napa Valley, Mendocino, Contra Costa
The 2014 Trinitas Mysteriama is old-school through and through, in the vines as well as the inspiration. A nod towards the classically rustic yet approachable Italian blends we all love, it is to date the most popular offering from the family-run second generation Napa Valley proprietors at Trinitas Cellars.
- Far from being just a crowd pleaser, this wine has an intricate backstory: “each year, our winemaker blends our favorite old vine varietals. The blend is truly a ‘mystery’ until the wine is bottled. Our goal is to produce a fruit forward, approachable wine that can be enjoyed with or without food.’ ”
- After harvest, each varietal is separately fermented and barrel aged for 18 months, which develops the individual complexity of each varietal, in turn allowing for the very best blend to be assembled. Of their old vine fruit, they chose for this vintage 40% Zinfandel, 37% Carignane, 11% Mataro, 10% Petite Sirah, and 2% Alicante Bouschet.
- Winemaker Matt Cline is in total submission to his Californian heritage, adamant in his quest to bottle the best wine from the most interesting vines in the state, and that dedication has translated nicely at a winery determined to bring California varietals to the forefront of modern viticulture.
- Trinity’s maxim is also its namesake: sun, soil, and human influence are the “holy” trinity working together to create fantastic wines. Tim and Steph Busch’s firm faith in this idea led them to found this small-production operation with the goal of enriching people’s lives with memorable experiences, and as you’ll be able to tell from first taste, this bottle is screaming for company, versatile enough for a family bbq or a formal dinner party, perhaps even in the same weekend.
The aromas and palate showcase ripe raspberry, maraschino cherry, blackberry jam and vanilla tinged notes of oak. This is a perfect wine to take to a dinner party and share with friends. Aged exclusively in American oak barrels.
From the winery:
For years Tim and Steph Busch dreamed of creating a small-production winery in Napa Valley with a focus to enrich peoples’ lives with memorable experiences. Their vision led to Trinitas Cellars, a family owned and operated winery in the heart of Napa. Second generation Proprietors, Garrett and Betsy Busch now lead the mission of connecting people and wine. Winemaker Kevin Mills captures the elements of sun, soil and humanity, the “Trinity”, into each bottle produced. Now in its 16th year, Trinitas Cellars continues to blend unique wines and unforgettable moments.
