RATINGS BASED ON VALUE close product ratings popup

Beyond including the published ratings from Parker, Spectator, Enthusiast, etc. we believe it's advantageous to include our own ratings for every wine offered. Following a scale similar to the top wine critics' 100 point system, our ratings focus on value (the invino Member price vs. the retail price), and the current state of the wine (what's happening in the bottle now).

So, let's say we have a 91 point Parker rated Napa Cab that retails for $50. And let's say it's been secured for Members at $30. Our rating assumes the $30 price tier. .

Our tasters review wines on the following 100-point scale:
  • 95-100 Classic: a great wine
  • 90-94 Outstanding: a wine of superior character and style
  • 85-89 Very good: a wine with special qualities

RATINGS How It Works

93 Insider points

REVIEWS

We're so excited to feature this wine and it will be a perfect choice to pair with you next holiday gathering! The spice notes combined with oppulent fruit flavors make for a perfect red blend to sip on by the fire with friends and then continue to enjoy with you prime rib roast or turkey dinner. 93 points - Premier Sommelier Team

WHY WE LOVE IT
  • BLEND
    Corvina e Corvinone 85%, Rondinella 10% e Barbera 5%.
  • APPELLATION
    Veneto, Italy
  • ALCOHOL
    13.90%
  • SIZE
    750ml

Emilio Pasqua Di Bisceglie runs the Musella winery—joined by daughter Maddalena and nephew Enrico. From a combination of 80% Corvina and Corvinone, 10% Rondinella and 10% Barbera, these three dedicated vintners (and environmentalists) create a supple and awesomely complex red. The wine is made from 100% hand-harvested, estate-grown fruit treated to fermentation with native yeasts only. Red plum, a hint of wild herbs and tons of tangy vivid cherry fruit and holiday spice notes emerge from this exuberant youngster, which was aged for six months in concrete and an additional six months in large, traditional oak casks before bottling.

“It’s not too often I run across an estate in Veneto that delivers this level of quality at what are exceedingly fair prices in today’s market. Readers will want to give these offerings serious consideration,” writes Vinous about Musella. It is not too often that any wine out there offers such complexity and style for so reasonable a sum. Drink this profound value red with red meat, poultry or robust pasta dishes. Musella’s Valpolicella Superiore is also out-of-this world with polenta.

·    Musella is a biodynamic farm (Demeter certified)—and a regional treasure on top of it! The estate’s 1,000 acres include wild forests, fruit and olive trees and—of course—native wine grapes, which make up just 60 acres in total.

·    The hot-off-the-presses 2016 vintage in the Veneto was rated 92 points or “Outstanding” by the Wine Enthusiast.

·    Three grape varieties are permitted in the production of Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore DOC and all three are used in this wine—Corvina, Molinara and Rondinella. Unusual for Valpolicella, this wine also includes 10% Barbera.

·    Musella’s Valpolicella Superiore comes from a trio of estate-owned vineyards: Monte del Drago, Il Perlar and Palazzina with vines averaging 20 to 50 years of age.

TASTING NOTES

From the winery:

Ruby red colour. Freshness and integrity of fruit give character to this medium bodied wine, pleasant and with an elegant dried flowers aftertaste.

THE STORY TO KNOW

From the winery:

Our wines follow an ambitious project, not only because biodynamic, but because we believe that now is the time for the Valpolicella to further exploit its territorial potential, free from market constraints in order to better express all their innate class in purity and taste.

The elegance inherent in traditional varieties is thus considered by us the conceptual center of our wines, the true revelation of a rich and unique nuances and complexities territory, often enhanced with the right depth in the most commercial wines, thus confusing the public perception .

Cherry bark and spice blend in the typical pleasure of Valpolicella wines and find in Musella a sincere interpretation balance, which goes straight to the heart.

PERFECT PAIRINGS

Pair with any red meat dish or savory pasta with garlic flavoring.
