REVIEWS

Pefect Provenance & in mint condition!

Revisiting Bonneau’s recently released 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Celestins is a real treat as this cuvee flirts with perfection. Already revealing some pink and amber at the edge, the color is surprisingly evolved for a wine from this vintage. However, that’s deceptive as the aromatics offer incredible aromas of dried flowers, beef blood, spice, figs, sweet black currants and kirsch, smoked game, lavender, and sweaty but attractive saddle leather-like notes. Full-bodied and massively endowed, with abundant silky tannins, it possesses the balance to age for 30+ years. - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate 98 Points

Deep red. Incredibly complex, wild bouquet of red fruit liqueur, botanical herbs, fresh and dried lavender, anise, smoked game and minerals. Round, sweet and impossibly deep, offering a smorgasbord of ripe red and dark berry flavors complicated by candied licorice, floral pastilles and succulent herbs. Becomes more vibrant on the finish, leaving a broad swath of sappy red fruits in its trail. - Tanzer's IWC 97 Points

Perfect Provenance! Direct from the official U.S. Import Agent. Bottles are in mint condition.

From invino CEO, Tony Westfall: Over the last 30 plus years, Jeff Welburn has established himself as one of the premier importers of high quality, artisan French wines in the United States. His lifelong passion for wines has cultivated relationships with the likes of Henri Jayer, Jean-Nicolas Méo (Méo-Camuzet), Hubert Lignier, Lalou Bize-Leroy and many other luminaries of the French wine industry, literally a Who's Who in France. A friend of invino for quite a while, Jeff is especially revered for his Châteauneuf-du-Pâpe collection. A few weeks ago, we were chatting with him about our Cellar CollectionsTM series, and a light bulb went off in his head. “You know,” he said, “I have thousands of bottles of wine that I have no hope of consuming – but I have such a hard time saying no to building my collection.” This is the result: the personal collection of one of the top importers in the country. All wines are direct from the Domaine in France and brought directly into Jeff’s massive temperature and humidity-controlled cellar. All are in impeccable shape and any flaws are noted below. Please note that though we have full confidence in this cellar, all vintage wines come with a full caveat emptor, with absolutely no refunds. We hope you enjoy exploring this brilliant collection; cheers.

***No Refunds or Returns for wines 7 years or older.

THE STORY TO KNOW

Bonneau's Châteauneufs, particularly the mythic Réserve des Célestins, are not only fantastically complex, immense and capable of decades of development; they are also endowed with that rare and magical sense of extra dimension found only in the greatest wines.

Henri represents the 12th generation of his family to make wine in Châteauneuf du Pape dating back to 1667 and his methods today continue to have more in common with the 17th century than with contemporary winemaking.
