It's Back, and It Abides
"Are you employed, sir"? "Employed"? "You don't go out looking for a job dressed like that? On a weekday"? "Is this a... what day is this"?
I couldn't help myself. Any opportunity to throw out Lebowski quotes will not be passed up. We ran as much of the Dude's previous vintage because, frankly, it's just an awesome bottle of wine! Luckily, when the 2014 ran out, I had easy access to this the 2015, and I'm excited to be running it again.
Cranberry and raspberry jam on the nose. The palate is full bodied with bright red cherry, oak tannin, pomegranate and vanilla cream, leading into a medium finish. A great example of Napa's 2015. Drink now-2021. The Dude abides, man. 92 Points - JZ Sept '18
Cab Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot
From the vintage Vinous calls, "Positively stunning" and Parker deemed 97 points, this is the new release of a member favorite production and full-blown sell-out.
The dudes behind “the Dude” red are serious about small-lot winemaking so do not be fooled by the otherwise playful name of this spectacular red. Neil Koch and Mark Canepa are not just any winemaking duo. Koch has more than 12 years experience including a long stint studying under legendary Philippe Melka before taking on a winemaking position at Lewis Cellars. By teaming up with friend Mark Canepa of the barrel making company Seguin Moreau, Koch positioned himself to access not only some of the finest fruit going in the Valley but also the pick of the crop cooperage wise.
Fermented in aged in part in new French oak with minimal intervention at the winery, this 2015 (from one heck of a vintage in Napa) is a generous mouthful of spice and ripe black cherry with oak influences and solid structure beautifully integrated and a finish of subtle cedar and warm plummy fruit. Dudes, women and everyone in between will love this forward red now and over the next five years.

Winemaker Neil Koch - pronounced like “scotch” without the “s” - is given much deserved credit for this wine. He’s a former protegee of winemaking icon, Philippe Melka. Yes, the Philippe Melka who Robert Parker named as ‘one of the world’s nine most important winemakers’ and a ‘Winemaker of the Year’ recipient from Food & Wine. Neil got the pleasure of training under Philippe across several labels including: Seavey Vineyards, Bryant Family and Vineyard 29.
