Gold Medal - France’s Concours IGP
92 Insider Points
A diamond in the rough from our recent sourcing trip to the Loire, the Julien Pinot Noir from Vignoble Cogne is an outstanding bottle of wine that does a great job showing off the style of Loire with the style of the Pinot Noir Grape. The wine presents with delicate red fruit on the nose, alongside candied cherry and cassis, with very subtle hints of cola nut and bramble. The palate is soft and elegant, showing black raspberry and ripe strawberry over sweet tobacco and smooth tannin on the finish. Drinking somewhere between Burgundy and Russian River, this is an amazing Pinot Noir that is sure to please and excite. Enjoy now through 2019. - DZ Jun 2016
Loire Valley, France
It's hard to beat the feeling of discovering a new, great wine. Unless it's finding it direct from the source. Here, the Pinot Noir uncovered by our Sourcing Team came about as they made their way across the Loire and found themselves at this charming producer's estate. A gold medal-winning red, it was secured on the spot; sourced especially for our DI program.
The 2013 Vignoble Cogne Cuvee Julien is a barrel-raised Pinot Noir, delicate in color and stunning in fruit aromatics: red raspberry, cherry, earthy plum and cranberry. Fragrant baking spices and sweet vanilla add to the complexity on the palate. Superb freshness makes this inviting for sip, after sip … after sip!

A few things to know:
Farmed sustainably (certified by Terra Vitis) in France’s beautiful Loire Valley by Yan Cogne and his family, this Pinot Noir was made with partial cold maceration (70%) prior to fermentation, thus locking in the freshest of fruity aromatics and flavors.
The wine was pressed into French oak barrels for aging, providing layers of texture and aroma, and a supple structure.
The 2013 Vignoble Cogne Cuvee Julien Pinot Noir won the Gold Medal at France’s Concours IGP in 2015! It’s a wine to enjoy over the next 3-5 years served with lighter but flavorful meats like roast turkey, or grilled pork chops.
