Silicon Valley garages are gaining a reputation for propelling innovation, passion and hard work into greatness. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniack started building computers from a garage in Mountain View, CA; today, we have Apple. Rob and Diana Jensen started making wine in their Sunnyvale garage; today, we have Testarossa. From their first production of 25 cases made in that garage, Testarossa Winery now produces more than 16,000 cases annually, and has earned hundreds of 90-point plus scores with its consistently-exceptional wines. This special 2014 Cuvée Los Gatos Pinot Noir pays homage to the town of Los Gatos, CA, where The Jensen’s Testarossa Winery sits in the historic winery built in 1888.
One of the country’s best-known regions for world-class Pinot Noir is the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey County. The 2014 Testarossa Cuvée Los Gatos Pinot Noir was sourced from hand-selected vineyards in the northern end of this famous appellation. In sourcing the grapes to pay respect to the home of their esteemed winery, Rob and Diana Jensen, along with winemaker Bill Brousseau, accepted only the very best fruit. The Highlands’ close proximity to the Monterey Bay provides an ocean-influenced cool climate and long growing season allowing for slow gentle ripening and full flavor development on the vine.
Incredible depth of terroir from this world-class region lies within this bottle. The Cuvée Los Gatos is a delight for the senses. Pouring the deep ruby cuvée invigorates the nose with wonderful scents of orange blossom, red cherry, cranberry, pomegranate and paired nicely with the subtlety of raspberry, cloves and vanilla bean. Upon taste, these aromas develop into cherry and citrus notes, along with a smoky currant and blueberry with fine-grained tannins. The careful use of French oak adds a nice dimension and a long, lingering finish. This wine is complex and generous with much to be admired in this special vintage.

Testarossa Winery was founded in 1993 by the husband-and-wife team of Rob and Diana Jensen. Leaving high-tech careers behind, they started Testarossa by producing 25 cases of wine in their Sunnyvale garage. Today, Testarossa produces over 16,000 cases annually, and has earned hundreds of 90-point-plus scores on their wines from all the top wine writers. Their reserve Pinot Noir, the Cuvée Niclaire, is named after Rob and Diana's children, Nicholas and Claire. Testarossa Winery is located in downtown Los Gatos in the historic 19th-century Novitiate Winery built in 1888.

We love to pair it with recipes like garlic and herb pork tenderloin, oven-baked salmon and wild mushrooms with herbs. This wine is drinking great now and with enough structure and fruit to last another 3-5 years.
