Made from 64% Pinot Noir and 36% Syrah, this copper-tinged refresher is nutty and tangy with acidity. It offers deep grapefruit, mandarin orange and lime flavors that persist, please and quench on the palate, all in a compelling, complex light-bodied package. -Wine Enthusiast
64% Pinot Noir and 36% Syrah
Sonoma County, California
· Two distinct techniques were used in the making of this delightful dry rosé, which gets its complexity and depth from partial saignée and partial direct-press juice.
· The Pinot Noir contingent was sourced from a trio of top high-elevation vineyards: Cougar Rock high up in the Vaca Mountain Range, La Perla Vineyard in the Mayacama Mountains and Machester Ridge Vineyard in Mendocino County.
· Brick & Mortar’s source for Syrah is the West Block Vineyard from Petaluma.
· The 2016 vintage is the fifth consecutive year for exceptional fruit quality in the Napa Valley and the Sonoma Coast.
Minimal intervention meets maximum winemaking intention in this 91-point (Wine Enthusiast) rosé. Mountain-grown Pinot Noir from premier vineyard sites was blended with 36% Sonoma County-grown Syrah, with 100% native-yeast ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel and zero oak to get in the way of this dry rosé’s intense mineral and wild strawberry flavors. “It offers deep grapefruit, mandarin orange and lime flavors that persist, please and quench on the palate, all in a compelling, complex light-bodied package,” writes the enthusiast. By eschewing commercial yeasts and other additives and insisting on only the lightest of fining and filtering before the wine went into bottles makes for a robust, aromatic quaffer equally bold in color, perfume and taste.
From the winemaker:
Brick and Mortar's 2016 Rosé is an eye-catching shade of pale pink in the glass, with a lively freshness and energy. With enticing aromas of peppered strawberry, crushed stones and apple blossom, the palate is lush with flavors of red raspberry, rhubarb and ripe watermelon. This year they blended in Syrah rosé, creating a wonderful depth of flavor and beautiful floral notes, making this their favorite rosé yet released!
From the winery:
In 2011, this all began as a single idea - or rather a dream. They envisioned producing wines that were true and pure expressions of both site and vintage. Brick & Mortar committed themselves to making wines that they were proud to share with those closest to them. They have accomplished this dream with their award-winning brick & mortar wines.
