What's Even Sexier than RRV Pinot? Private & Unknown RRV Pinot
I was perusing the net a few weeks back, checking through various wine-trade websites to see what I could sniff up (I am the office's equivalent of a truffle hound after all). That's when, seemingly out of nowhere after surfing through pages and pages of unworthy wine, Chloe Creek appeared in my browser! I almost couldn't believe it, and was skeptical as I picked up the phone to dial Bill Comiskey, proprietor. But boy let me tell, I am sure glad I did. This winery is the epitome of "under the radar", and we are the ONLY ones to get it, I can guarantee you that.
Soft strawberry and cream on the nose. The palate brings sapid qualities of black raspberry, red currant and passionfruit on a light-medium body. The acidity is well-balanced, and carries through a red cherry finish. Get in on this while you can, I bought everything I could. Expect more vintages to release in the coming months. 94 Points - JZ May '18
Sonoma Coast AVA, California
This wine sits with some of the most prestigous and coveted names: MacPhail, Sojourn, La Follette and on...). Crafted from the coveted fruit of the region, it's the definition of micro-gem. Rarely, if ever seen in the market, (typically shared with a fortunate few friends of the winery), it's a treat both on the palate and the wallet.
- Under the radar by design, proprietors Kimberly and Bill Comiskey are in that lucky small universe to source coveted fruit from the renowned Sangiacamo Vineyard. They produce a private lot for their inner circle of friends.
- The celebrated vineyard is situated on Roberts Road at the western base of Sonoma Mountain. The primary clone 777 block was planted in 1999 on 101-14 rootstock in deeper loam soils. Climate is key to this vineyard's ability to produce noteworthy Pinot noir. Cool ocean breezes and Petaluma Gap fog keep the heat in check and allow for long hang time while retaining natural acidity.
- Winemaker Dan Fitzgerald has spent harvests in both hemispheres, from Europe down to Australia and back up to Napa, and brings his specialized approach to this fantastic Pinot Noir.
- The vintage's near-perfect ripening conditions made for a generous palate, that today's drinking with nice concentration and mature, beautifully textured tannins.
Fresh, vibrant notes of dark red cherry, pomegranate and rose pedals are enhanced by a bright acidity making this Pinot crisp and refreshing. Layers of rich stone fruit and berry flavors are interwoven with sweet oak and earthy tannins resulting in a delicately balanced complex wine - great to enjoy by itself or with a light meal. The sumptuous mouth feel is quite lush considering the bright acidity and structure.
