We have some more killer Pinot Noir from Oregon (that we scored for you at over 60% off!!). And not just any Oregon Pinot from the Willamette, we’re detouring north to the very unique and super boutique Columbia Gorge AVA.

Though often overshadowed by it’s much more distinctive southern sibling, the Columbia Gorge has several interesting topographical factors, not limited to just straddling both Oregon and Washington states. As a 40 mile stretch of land sandwiched between Mt. Hood and Mt Adams in the Cascades, it has immense variances in climate, altitude, and therefore styles of wine. It calls itself the “world of wine in 40 miles” which, when you’re running the gamut from Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Cabernet, Riesling, Syrah, Sangiovese and a host of other varietals, it makes sense.

Most producers in the Gorge produce less than 5000 cases a year, making it a hot spot for small, artisanal wineries that are very hard to find outside of the Northwest. Mt. Hood Winery is one of them, located on a century-year old farm and run by a family with an extensive lineage in fruit-growing. They snagged the talents of industry veteran, Rich Cushman, who’s received a host of accolades through his tenure in the Willamette and in the Columbia Gorge (and got his start at Germany’s Burklin-Wolf estate!).

Their Pinot Noir is a lovely, bolder expression of the grape composed of notes of black cherries, plums, rose hips, dried herbs and hints of clove, smoke and cocoa nibs. At $15, this is a perfect, everyday Pinot that pairs with all the favorites.

Remember, buy 6 and it’s only $90 with shipping included. Enjoy your weekends!

THE STORY TO KNOW

With five generations of fruit growers in the Bickford family on a century-old farm in the beautiful Hood River Valley, the Mt. Hood Winery produces quality vintages on its fertile, well maintained land.
