“From a south-southeast facing vineyard of 40-year-old vines, the 2018 Pernand-Vergelesses Rouge 1er Cru Les Vergelesses has a bright, framboise, wild strawberry, spice, and sappy flower-driven bouquet to go with a juicy, medium-bodied style on the palate. With sweet tannins, beautiful purity, and a fresh, lively style, this is another gorgeous 2018 that's going to keep for 15-20 years.”
It’s EXTREMELY rare to snag red Burgundy at the Premier Cru level priced anything like this!
Etienne Delarche operates a 9-hectare family estate in the towns of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. It was Marius, the grandfather, who took over his wife Jeanne's vineyards in the 1950s. Then his son, Philippe, in 1987, gave a new boom by planting new plots and building a winery-cave complex on 3 levels. In 2016, Etienne and his brother, Thomas, wanted to expand the range of wines on offer by creating a trading company. After buying the grapes at the time of the harvest, Etienne vinifies them in the same way as the Domaine's. The viticultural process is still ploughed by horses and manually harvested, ensuring the utmost care in the grape sorting and handling.
It’s lovely -- ripe strawberry, warm spices, crazy-good at $43! We have about 20 cases today...don’t miss if you love top-class pinot noir!
