"Excellent" Vintage - WE

    Pinot Noir
    Carneros, Napa Valley
  • SIZE

Marketed as an entry-level Pinot, because of its entry-level price, this is unlike any other bargain red we know of. Vintner Nicole Abiouness makes under 150 cases of this wine each vintage. And while the vineyard breakdown changes year to year, her much-loved Ten Rows is always a blend of Abiousness’ vineyards in Los Carneros, and it’s always a spectacular wine—and would be if three times the cost.

Like the vintages preceding it, this newly released 2016 was made in an approachable, soft and caressing style and what that performs beautifully at the table. The cool, maritime air that makes Carneros Pinot Noir California’s most “Burgundian” in style is in evidence here, and the wine’s strawberry and wild cherry fruit accented by a touch of earthy loam and spice will find favor among Burgundy and Cal Pinot fans alike.

·    The 2016 vintage for Carneros Pinot Noir was rated 92 points or “Excellent” by the Wine Enthusiast.

·    Winemaker Nicole Abiouness began studying wine at The Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley and in the cellars of Swanson Vineyards.

·    Abiouness was trained on the job working for several top estates on several continents including Yalumba Winery in the Barossa Valley, Ch. La Tour Blanche and Domaine Comte Armand in Bordeaux and Burgundy respectively, and Chappellet and Luna Vineyards in California.

·    Her Pinot centric Abiouness Wines was launched in 2000, the same year Abiouness became the very first winery to bottle a vineyard designate Stanly Ranch Carneros Pinot Noir.

From the winery:

This wine is a blend from each of our special Pinot Noir vineyards. The goal- a very approachable, soft and silky wine that keeps you coming back for more.

From the winery:

If you’ve followed the history of the winemaker, you will find us in the year 2000. Still working as cellar master at Luna Vineyards with my first batch of grapes in barrels aging beautifully, I hear about ten rows of old vine Pinot Noir from Carneros that are up for sale. So I hastened to get everything ready, made it through harvest smoothly, but soon realized that I had way too much wine for my friends and family to drink! That meant I now had to form a company, design a label, and get out and sell all that fermented grape juice! And so, the beginnings of Abiouness Wines.
