""A wine with pretty dried fruit and berry character. Full body, chewy tannins and a fruity finish. Better in 2017." - James Suckling

I love a good deal on Barolo, a category that can easily retail for $100+ and has a very high standard of quality across the DOCG.  When you find one that sneaks in under $30 you just can’t pass that up, and the 2011 release from Mauro Molino is a perfect example.  This elegant, well crafted wine is a gentle ruby red in the glass, with aromas of red cherry, rose petal and sweet tobacco presenting on the nose.  The powerful structure and muscular tannin show on the palate, with notes of fresh plum and cigar box leading to the long and prolific finish.  A must try!  Enjoy now through 2030. - DZ Feb 2016

We’ve accessed a pristine parcel of critically acclaimed, full-bodied Barolo for invino’s Italian enophiles! The 2011 is the latest vintage of this regal wine to achieve a high grade: 91 JS! This  comes hot on the heels of 92 WA / 93 IWR for the 2010.

The 2011 Mauro Molino Barolo is effusive in aroma, with dried rose petals, sweet cherry and clove. Full on the palate, with the signature chewy tannins of the Nebbiolo grape, this warm vintage wine is accessible now, especially with the right food such as a rich cut of steak or a creamy cheese dish. The wine will age very well for several more years and will be at its best from 2017 onward.

Things to know:

Mauro Molino’s Barolo is from the region’s La Morra zone, a terroir known for producing seductive, soft and relatively early-drinking versions of the famously tannic and sometimes impenetrable “King of Wines”.

Mauro inherited the family’s vines from his father Giuseppe, and in 1982 made his first vintage. Now his son and daughter, Matteo and Martina, assist in the cellar of their small family winery.

2011 was a warm, early vintage in Barolo, freshened by rain that fell in September just before the harvest, and the wines have been notably approachable and expressive right out of the gate.

TASTING NOTES

Brilliant garnet with orange hues, exuberant fruit and spice on nose and palate, luscious, full body and flavors, velvety texture, and spicy finish.
