"For this malbec, Viñalba uses vineyards planted around 2011, more than 1,400 meters up in a small valley between the mountains, in the middle of their property in Gualtallary. The soils are highly calcareous in an area known as Monasterio, one of the sources of the best malbecs made in Argentina today. In this example, the zone’s herbal aromas are strongly present, but so are the fruity and floral notes. The tannic texture—chalky, tense, and scratchy—is the direct result of vines planted on limestone. A clear example of the type of wines obtained from that part of the Uco Valley."

Fabre, Viñalba offers a range of beautifully crafted wines, combining Argentina’s purity of fruit and clear varietal expression with the elegance and complexity which are the hallmarks of Hervé’s classical background. Today, he is one of the leaders in the region, and this is shockingly delicious wine for $18.
How does he do it? Well he starts with amazing vineyards in one of the most renowned growing areas in all of Argentina: Gualtallary. This is where luminaries like Nicolas Catena and Susana Balbo have staked their claim, producing some of the finest wines in the world from this alluvial fan at the base of the Andes.
This has dark, plummy fruit that with air opens up and spreads across your mouth with toasted spices, blackberry, flowers with some chalky minerals chiming in. With its freshness and depth, it's the perfect drink-me-all-day wine, a wine begging for carb-filled deliciousness like pizza or a fat Argentine steak.
