'Very Good'- Wine Enthusiast
"Earthy, spicy plum and berry aromas are racy and a touch leathery. Grabby tannins make for a drawing mouthfeel, while this tastes of herbal plum and wild berry along with chocolate and mint. A dry, lightly oaked but spicy finish provides for a good ending."- Wine Enthusiast
The Wine Spectator notes: “A crunchy red, with concentrated flavors of roasted plum, dark cherry and dried raspberry that are thick and rich. The well-spiced finish features chocolate notes. Drink now through 2019. White the Wine Enthusiast writes: “Earthy, spicy plum and berry aromas are racy and a touch leathery. Our Tasting Team has long followed the wines of this established Argentine producer, and when a new release of Bianchi’s Malbec comes into our warehouse, a few bottles are always snapped up by staff to drink with grilled meats and burgers.
This strapping red comes from hand-picked fruit (100% Malbec) treated to a long, slow ferment and maturation in a combination of French and American oak. It’s a robust, full-throttle red with stick-to-your-ribs, fruity character and powerful tannins. It’s also infinitely compatible with foods cooked and enjoyed outdoors.
Four reasons we love it:
The 2014 vintage in Mendoza was rated 92 points or “Outstanding” by the Wine Advocate.
This Malbec was sourced from Valentin Bianchi’s Finca Asti and Dona Elsa Estate vineyard, the first located in Las Paredes and the second at 750 feet in elevation in the San Rafael DOC of Mendoza.
This part of San Rafael is among the region’s chilliest, and the vines have to struggle to ripen. What this means is concentrated juice from some very stubborn, low-yielding plants.
One of Argentina’s most well-respected and well-loved wineries, Valentin Bianchi was established in 1928 and is currently run by the third generation of this highly esteemed winemaking family.
A deep red color with hints of purple, this Malbec is expressive on the nose with notes of ripe black fruits, violets, and tobacco.
Pair this Malbec with a meat dish that mirrors its tangy berry flavors like cranberry pot roast or roast duck with sour cherry sauce.
