Garnacha. Amazingly priced, juicy, complex, astounding Garnacha. There are incredible bargains coming out of Spain these days, and this devilishly excellent wine is no exception. And for $12? You couldn’t ask for a better bang for your buck in value.

Hailing from the Extremadura region in western Spain, which is also known for its Iberian pigs and delicious jamón...and for being a site for a few locations in Game of Thrones, the region is also known for its reasonably-priced and diverse range of wines. Having over 80k hectares planted to vines helps of course! At Evandria, the vines are planted in an area that used to be a lake where the soil is mainly comprised of sand, rocks and stones. Here the stones retain heat to accelerate ripening, but also keep the vines cool in the evenings and retain humidity during the hot summer months.

The resultant Garnacha is a complex, minerally, juicy explosion of aromas and flavors. Raspberries, strawberry jam, bright red cherries, violets, rose petals, and a hint of clove. Velvety tannins, smooth, balanced and simply delicious. It’s a steal at $12!!

THE STORY TO KNOW

Evandria is the original Roman name of the village where the vines and surrounding estate are located. The soil where Evandria vineyard stands used to be a lake, therefore rocks and stones are predominant. These stones and rocks have been shaped along the years by the river Guadiana creating round pebbles. The singular nature of the Evandria soil attracted the attention of winemaker Amelia Coloma, who has ever since, dedicated herself to the Evandria project.
