Moving to the Tensley releases, the 2015 Blanc Camp Four Vineyard (65% Grenache and 35% Roussanne) is exotic and perfumed, with lots of peach, pineapple and orange marmalade characteristics intermixed with a touch of flowers and honey. It’s a big, rich, beautifully textured white that has moderate acidity and tons of charm. -Jeb Dunnuck
Rich and expressive, featuring toast, honey and floral overtones to the apricot cobbler and yellow apple core. Viscous, with refreshing acidity and a spicy side to keep the flavors fresh. Grenache Blanc and Roussanne. Drink now. 180 cases made. -Wine Spectator
A beautiful Rhone-style white to add to any lineup, Tensley's Blanc is a classic example of the Central Coast's ability to emulate the French valley. The fruity aromas have softened, giving a mellow bouquet. Medium bodied, with an oily texture balanced with bright acidity, and flavors of lemon-lime, honeydew and nectar. Enjoy now through 2020. 91 Points - JZ Oct '18
Grenache Blanc, Roussanne
Camp 4 Vineyard, Santa Barbara County
Joey Tensley’s cult following may be due to his award-winning, single-vineyard Rhone-style reds. But his white Rhone has been a wee industry secret…that is, until we blew the cap off with an offering of the 2015 version of this wine. Using Grenache Blanc (65%) and Roussanne (35%) from cool-climate Camp 4 Vineyard, Tensley picks, vinifies and matures the two varietals together as it’s done in the actual Rhone (in France!) using traditional techniques and only neutral French oak.
· Since Joey Tensley established his family estate in 1998—releasing just 100 cases of wine—this Rhone-obsessed vintner has seen his wines on the Spectator’s Top 100 and has earned 99-points from Robert Parker.
· The classic combination of Grenache Bland and Roussanne is relatively rare in the U.S. but a mainstay in France’s Rhone Valley where the pair are most deliciously seen in the intense, full-bodied white wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
· Situated on the easternmost edge of the Santa Ynez Valley, Camp 4 Vineyard is owned by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.
From the winemaker:
The Grenache Blanc brims with steely minerality and fresh notes of green apple that balance beautifully with the rich, tropical fruits and lush mouth feel of the Roussanne.
From the winery:
Established in 1998, the first release of Tensley totaled just 100 cases. In 2015, our production reached 5,000 cases and included five single-vineyard Syrahs, the most in Santa Barbara County. Though we’ve grown in size, our philosophy has never changed – source the best fruit possible and let the vineyard speak for itself.
The Tensley Tasting Room is located in the scenic town of Los Olivos in the heart of Santa Barbara County wine country.
Truly a family owned and operated winery, you will likely find either Joey or Jennifer Tensley working behind the tasting bar on any given weekend. We look forward to seeing you soon.
From the winemaker:
Pair this Blanc with spicy Thai dishes, fish dishes, or chilled shellfish.
