We’ve got just the refreshing collection of crisp, light, chilled wines to share with friends. Gewürztraminer is a mouthful of a word, but we prefer a mouthful of this 2014 Gewürztraminer from highly-awarded David Hill winery in Willamette, Oregon. This vintage earned an impressive 90 points from Wine Enthusiast and our tasting panel couldn’t have agreed more with that outstanding rating.

This thoroughly delicious wine does not seem at all sweet despite the fruity aroma, and just barely off dry. It is produced from some of the oldest Gewürztraminer vines in Oregon. The light and fruity varietal has incredible character, which on the nose emanates fruit, rose and spice aromas preparing the palate for floral notes of passionfruit, lychee, and spice. With all of those fruity, floral notes, you might expect to get a sweet wine. It certainly can be, but once it opens up, you’ll find a dry and inviting, white table wine.

Gewürztraminer is usually very low acid, and it’s generally on the lighter side. It goes great with smoked foods and foods that share its pungency like gruyere cheeses or even blue cheeses.

TASTING NOTES

True to its name, this Gewürztraminer offers up varietal spiciness, along with intense aromas and flavors of lychee, tangerine, orange, peach, melon, apple, honey, and cream. It has an excellent balance of sweet, rich fruit and crisp acidity, along with a slight minerality.
