"The 2014 EQ Chardonnay is sourced from a slope vineyard on granitic soils at 19 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. The whole clusters were cool down and pressed at low pressure. There was a big frost in the spring of 2013, so yields were cut in half, and the Chardonnay was the grape most affected by this. The must fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak barrels where the lees were worked totaling some 11 months in barrel before bottling. It wants to be a classical Chardonnay showing the coastal freshness with good acidity, balanced by some creaminess in the palate. There are some yellow fruit aromas and plenty of yeasty hints. Only a small percentage of the wine goes through malolactic, just to add a creamy note to balance the sharp texture of the granite soils. The palate is medium-bodied and combines ripe, slightly exotic aromas and a sea breeze, marine profile. 18,000 bottles produced.''- Wine Advocate

"This is crazy excellent with dense fruit and super texture yet it remains very bright and agile. Full to medium body, light apple, stone, and light straw. Love the length. 80% used oak, touch of malo. Drink now.''

The 2014 EQ Chardonnay is another wonderful wine from this world class winery, showing much more in common with white Burgundy than any other Chardonnay category.  Bright lemon and yellow apple waft from the glass, leading to a palate with zesty citrus, crunchy fruit and a lingering finish.  Enjoy now through 2020. - DZ Dec 2016

“(A) classical Chardonnay showing the coastal freshness.” – Wine Advocate 92 points
We can’t take all the credit for this knock-down delicious Chilean Chardonnay coming back for an encore showing in our lineup. A customer asked us to look into tracking down a case of “the most amazing Chardonnay we had while visiting Chile,” and boy was she right!

In 1999 Jorge Matetic saw great beauty and potential in the granite soils and cool Pacific influences of the San Antonio Valley. To ensure that the beauty wasn’t trampled by the touch of man, he worked with a team of specialists to show the world wines born of an environmentally respectful philosophy. The Matetic wines are all organic and biodynamically farmed, delivering wine to the world which reflective of their dedication to being good stewards of the land.

The 2014 Matetic EQ Chardonnay is a classic cool-climate Chardonnay with a touch of exotic fruit that only Chile can deliver. The golden color in glass gives way to aromas of bright citrus. The fresh peach and honey palate balanced by sea-side minerality delivers freshness and volume.

The Story to Know:
The story of Matetic Vineyards begins in 1999. Led by Jorge Matetic, fourth generation of the family in Chile, the family embraced the challenge of planting Syrah in a cool-climate location, becoming a pioneer project and developing a new category of coastal Syrah within the country.

Confident in the spectacular conditions given by the Pacific Ocean’s influence and the ancient granitic soils of the place, Matetic Vineyards set a high goal to itself: to become one of the best cool-climate wineries, focusing on quality and excellence, crafting wines that would show the great potential of coastal Chile.

To achieve this goal, a team with the best professionals was formed, including the Californians Ken Bernards as consultant winemaker, Ann Kraemer in viticulture and the late Alan York as a consultant in biodynamic farming. All of this, with one objective in mind: crafting wines of the highest quality, practicing biodynamic and organic agriculture, to show the world wines born of an environment-respectful philosophy.

Currently, Matetic Vineyards has 150 hectares of coastal vineyards planted with cool-climate varieties; exporting to more than 30 countries around the world. Keeping the same principles that led the beginnings of the project, with a commited and passionate team who want to produce authentic wines, that reflect their origin in the coast of San Antonio & Casablanca. This permanent effort has been widely acknowledged by the specialized press and by those who are most important to us, our consumers.

Our Chardonnay has brilliant golden straw color. The nose has citric and tropical fruit aromas that blend beautifully with flavors of honey and peaches, along with its distinct salty minerality, our terroir’s unique expression. On the palate is a full, voluptuous wine displaying freshness and volume without an overtly up front acidity.

The story of the Matetic Winery begins in 1999 when the Matetic family decided to diversify their business ventures and enter the world of wine, confident in the virtues of the climate and soils in the Rosario Valley. With a firm conviction in the vital importance of maintaining a strong professional team to guide every step of the project, the family incorporated Alan York (Biodinamic Consultant), Ken Bernards (Consulting Winemaker), and Ann Kraemer (Viticultural Consultant) into the project in 2000 to ensure that Matetic wines achieve the highest quality. The EQ stands for Equilibrium... balance.
