Wine Enthusiast, 90 points
“Tropical, nutty and robust in initial oak, this wine settles into a nice balanced place, slightly reductive and youthful. Apple and pear compote give it a fruity flavor nuanced in lushness.”
$15 for Saintsbury’s fantastic Carneros chardonnay -- was $30! Wow! If only we had more than a few cases…
Run, don’t walk, SPRINT actually to grab a 6-pack of this American classic since 1981! Rich, creamy and fresh, this is an absolutely FINE bottle -- you might want to save it for special occasions even though it's not priced like one. $90 + free shipping on 6 or more!!
Saintsbury Winery was founded by Richard Ward and David Graves in 1981. Incidentally, they both met during their graduate studies in Enology at UC Davis while taking a brewing class together, and this is where they made their first non-commercial wine, a Santa Barbara grown barrel fermented riesling. Fate sometimes works its magic – David had a biology degree from UC Santa Cruz and Richard had an engineering degree, and both were pursuing careers in the wine industry. That winery is now legendary, of course, for its superb pinot and chard!
Personally, we’d go 92 points at least on this! We have about 40 cases -- it will disappear at our jaw-dropping price today...while it lasts!
