Our personal choice for the best Champagne house we’ve ever imported, the Brut Reserve from Mont d’Hor is very pleasant to drink, with a perfect balance of tree fruit and a stony minerality.  The nose has lemon honey and a toasty yeast note, leading to a palate with just a hint of residual sugar and a crisp and clean finish.  All the elements are in balance, green apple, peach, lemon and a stony minerality held up by a zippy acidity and crunchy structure.  A panel favorite Champagne tasted this year, and we’ll definitely continue bringing this one over for our customers.  Enjoy now through 2026. - DZ May 2018

A Direct Import worthy of big, bubbly accolades. Even among the amazing sparkling wines we’ve sourced from Europe, this offering stands alone. “The best we have ever brought in,” says invino CEO Danielle Westfall. And the “Best of Class” winner at a grower Champagne tasting event late last year.

Used to be, all of the grapes grown on small family-owned farms in Champagne were purchased by one of the big commercial estates and blended in with countless other vineyards. From The New York Times: “That easy world began to change in the 1990s with a trickle of grower-producers, small farmers who grew their own grapes and made their own wines, into the international market.

“Without the vast blending capacity of the big houses, these grower-produced Champagnes, like other wines, displayed the singular qualities of terroir and often differed from vintage to vintage. They offered a stark contrast to the too-often-bland consistency of the big houses,” concluded The New York Times in 2015.

Nothing bland about this creamy, apple-infused Champagne with unimagined levels of Pinot Meunier yeastiness and body, ending with a crisp citric note. This sparkler’s fine bead and acidity match a range of foods. Meunier makes for a very rich Champagne, and Mont d’Hor is no exception.

TASTING NOTES

Intensely fruity flavors, clean and slightly sharp, the wine opens to the sensation of freshly picked red berries: strawberries, Morello cherries, black currants and raspberries. The finish is supple and rounde
