The Best Bubbles Come in the Smallest Packages.
And I'm not just saying that because this is a half-bottle. Insider tip, smaller bubbles in your glass equates to a high-quality wine. Not to say that those bigger bubbled sparklers aren't any good. It's just that the best of the best come from Champagne.
Bright brioche & pear aromas waft up. Crisp bubbles give way to ripe yellow pear, light green apple, savory baked yeasts and honeysuckle nectar. A savory finish sits nicely for a long while. I'm sipping on this one slow, and I might just crack me another bottle.

"The NV Brut Blanc de Noirs Recolte Noire is not a wine for the timid, but I loved it for its intense fruit, complex bouquet and enveloping personality. To be sure, this is a muscular Champagne that is best enjoyed at the dinner table, but the balance here is nothing less than compelling. Fresh mint, smoke and minerals are some of the nuances that linger on the powerful finish. The Recolte Noire is 100% Pinot Noir from vineyards in the Cote des Bar. Disgorged May 2008 (not indicated on the label)."- Wine Advocate
“An expressive version, with ground anise, ginger, cardamom and clove notes winding through the bright boysenberry, black currant, and white cherry fruit. Well-balanced and creamy in texture, with lemon peel, biscuit and floral accents on the fresh finish. Disgorged January 2013. Drink now through 2018. 250 cases imported.”- Wine Spectator
"Pale, bright straw color. High-pitched tangerine and melon aromas, with floral, vanilla and ginger nuances that expand with air. Stony and energetic but fleshy, offering potent orchard fruit and lemon curd flavors that show impressive depth. The broad, smoky, persistent finish leaves spice and vanilla notes in its wake."- Vinous

“I only drink Champagne on two occasions, when I am in love and when I am not” – Coco Chanel
Either way, this perfectly portioned half bottle of Dosnon & Lepage has you covered. The classic liquid lace of Champagne’s bubbles never fails to mesmerize those who behold it. This one packs enough minerality and richness to excite the stoic and passionate alike.
In southern Champagne, seated in hard limestone slopes reminiscent of Chablis, Dosnon & Lepage are reinvigorating lost terroir. La Côte des Bar’s rolling hills are lined with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. Here, fruit develops inspirational aromas and flavors. Rich with minerality and delicate fruit flavors, hand harvested Pinot Noir ferments and ages in Puligny Montrachet barrels. It’s masterful work from this small Champagne house and skilled Champagne producers.
The Dosnon & Lepage “Récolte Noire” Blanc de Noirs Champagne is 100% Pinot Noir. Pale and delicate, the luxurious stream of bubbles deliver aromas of citrus and floral aromas. The lacework of toasty flavors, minerality, and richness expand on the palate to deliver the quintessential Champagne encounter.
The Story to Know:
- The handiwork of Davy Donson and Simon-Charles Legpage, Champagne Donson & Lepage is the paradigm of expert micro-champagne houses. Davy and Simon-Charles grew up in this lovely landscape of rolling hills, farms, and vineyards.
- Davy studied and worked in winegrowing, honing his skills in top Burgundian cellars, before returning to Champagne. Simon- Charles returned to Champagne seeking peace and quite after studying criminal law Paris.
- Now the duo creates Champagne which bears testament to the limestone soils with minerality and finesse. Truly, such minerality speaks to the proximity of their terroir to Chablis. Something which Simon-Charles and Davy intend to show the world from this once lost region of Champagne.
- “Davy Dosnon runs this small, artisan cellar in Avirey-Lingey. Dosnon pursues sustainable viticulture and makes his wines in a fairly non-manipulated style. All of the wines are fermented and aged in oak (although they rarely show overt influence from the wood) and are bottled with low dosage. Based on what I have tasted so far, Dosnon is one of Champagne’s most promising young wineries.”- Antonio Galloni

100% Pinot Noir. Harvested by hand, fermented and aged in Puligny- Montrachet barrels. 40% vin de reserve. 10 grams per liter dosage. Vinous and very mineral.
A model for the future of small, artisinal Champagne houses, Champagne Dosnon & Lepage is the brainchild of Davy Dosnon and Simon-Charles Lepage, who grew up together in this beautiful region of rolling hills, wheat fields, and champagne vines. While Davy studied viticulture and worked in top Burgundy wine houses before moving back to Champagne, Simon-Charles studied criminal law in Paris, but moved back to the village of Lingey in the Côte de Bars region of Champagne for the peace and quiet.
Simon-Charles and Davy are turning out mineral, vinous bottlings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Fermenting entirely in former Puligny-Montrachet barrels, the champagnes might as well be Chablis with bubbles for all of their mineral-packed goodness. Dosages are very low (in some cases as little as 4 grams per liter) and the wines benefit from the restraint. None of the wines is fined or filtered.
Located less than an hour north of the Burgundian village of Chablis, this region of the Aube valley has more in common with northern Burgundy than with the rest of Champagne. Simon-Charles and Davy are intent on showing that difference to the world. Really masterful work from a lost region of Champagne.
