Rich and Layered, This is the Small-Lot Cab We've Been Looking For
I came across Robert John Vineyards whilst perusing the Family Winemakers event page. It's a great convention that helps to highlight the hard-to-find mom-and-pop productions, and I am sure glad I looked through that list. They have some awesome library wines, as you will taste here in their 2010 Cabernet. It's got everything I look for in delicious Napa Cab.
Cream, cherry and graphite wafts to the nose. Full bodied on the palate, with a flow of dark chocolate, cranberry, oak, vanilla, cinnamon, plum skin, fresh tobacco. Black cherry comes through on an oaky finish. Expect more from Robert John Vineyards. 94 Points - JZ May '18
97% Cabernet Sauvignon 2% Cabernet Franc 1% Petit Verdot
This is immediate gratification. Plucked from the library of a micro Napa producer, it's got great vineyard roots and terrific bottle age making for one dynamite score.
- Robert John Vineyards’ M.O. is simple, straightforward, and has never served them wrong: they select the best grapes from the most legendary Napa vineyards (we’re talking Rutherford, Stagecoach, D’Ambrosio, the works), and blend them to make complex wine that meets their meticulous standards of excellence.
- Their hard work has garnered them praise around the globe: founded in ‘07 by orthopedic surgeon, entrepreneur and philanthropist Robert John Nowinski, RJV has already racked up multiple gold and double-gold medals in international competitions, along with consistent high scores and reviews.
- RJV is a limited production and super boutiquey winery, specializing in the highest quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc made from the finest grapes in Napa to make high quality wines with fantastic ageing potential. The ratings, reviews--and the taste, of course--are enough for anyone sipping these wines to feel that Robert John Nowinski has been well-vindicated in his ambition.
- On that last note, this is a library vintage that received two bronze medals, three silver medals, a gold medal and a double-gold medal--more than any other RJV vintage to date--by everything from the San Francisco International Wine Competition to the International Wine Channel TV Awards . . . and it’s drinking fantastically right now! Napa Cabs enter their window five to ten years from harvest, so this 2010 is definitely in its prime: released in 2013, it’s had five years on the shelf to allow the tannins to settle and the fruit to intermingle perfectly.
Aromas of mocha, black cherry and tobacco. Flavors of dark fruits, vanilla and spice, Deep, dark purple in color. Full bodied with coarse tannins and a rich mouthfeel. The finish is long and smooth. Already quite approachable but has the acidity and tannins to age very nicely.
*invino maintains excellent cellaring conditions, and strives to sell every bottle in pristine condition. As is standard industry practice, any wine purchased over seven vintage years old, is sold "as is" and may not be returned for any reason.
From the winery:
Robert John Vineyards was founded in 2009 by Robert John Nowinski. Over the years, RJ had developed an appreciation for fine wines; especially California Cabernets. RJ’s deep appreciation for Cabernet wines ignited his creative energies and he formed a desire to create a premium Napa Cabernet that would stand up nicely against the best cult Cabernets produced today.
RJV is a limited production boutique winery located in Napa, California specializing in the highest quality cabernet sauvignon and sauvignon blanc wines. RJV wines are produced in very limited quantities from the finest available grapes every year. The freedom to choose grapes from different vineyards every year allows us to account for seasonal variations in vintages and select the best grapes from the best vineyards to maximize the characteristics of any given vintage. Each wine we produce is different; you won’t find our vintages to be copies of the previous year. Each vintage is unique but shows the consistent characteristics that we bring to our wines that we know you will love.
This rich and intensed flavored cab will pair nicely with a prime rib. Any dish containing beef or venison, even if they are high in fat, will taste amazing alongside this wine.
