From one of our favorite producers in the Napa Valley comes the II Proprietary Red. When I heard the winery had these available, I jumped right on the opportunity, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, they have quickly become one of the top wineries in the Valley. Their wines continually impress. Secondly, the wine itself is absolutely delicious. Red plum and vanilla on the nose. Full-bodied and inky, with big, bold fruit throughout. Oaky, tannic and well-balanced, this will be a great addition to the holiday party. 94 Points - JZ Nov '18

A knockout Napa Red that’s earning rave reviews from the community, dream-team winemakers Michel Rolland and talented young Jean Hoefliger (who we love for blending the best of Old World and New World wine styles!)

The 2014 Alpha Omega Napa Valley Red II, smooth, very approachable on the entry with dark, spiced plum, raspberry and cassis on the palate, drinks well above its list price. Gaining complexity with time in the glass, and finishing with fine, pliant tannins, a terrific Napa Red Bordeaux blend from this top address!

The “II” bottling is a blend based on Cabernet Sauvignon, with Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec and Cab Franc. Originally crafted especially for restaurants where wines need to be food-friendly and drink well right out of the bottle.

Things to know:

Fermented with native yeasts, and aged for around 14 months in 40% new French oak, this rich Napa red is full bodied, smooth, spicy and easy to drink.

Swiss born Jean Hoefliger’s Alpha-Omega wines have already won a cult following. Maybe it’s the years working as Michel Rolland’s protégé, at such storied properties as Lynch-Bages and Carbonnieux in Bordeaux, Meerlust in South Africa and Newton in Napa, that incubated his skill for crafting distinctively bold wines with intensely powerful flavor and structure.

Alpha Omega’s fruit sources are stellar: including Beckstoffer To Kalon in Oakville, Beckstoffer Dr Crane in St Helena, Newton on Spring Mountain, Stagecoach on Atlas Peak, and many more top sites from Rutherford, Howell Mountain, Stags Leap, Yountville etc.

TASTING NOTES 

Dark and inky in color with touches of ruby and purple on the rim, this wine offers densely pack aromas of dark cherry and blackberry with touches of lavender, cedar, cigar box, leather, and ashes balanced with fresh-cut violet, touches of kirsch, and sautéed mushrooms. Flavors of blueberries and blackberries make a velvety entrance alongside plum, geranium leaves, violet candy, dark cherry, and tomato stems.

Established in 2006, Alpha Omega was created to offer handcrafted wines that blend the best winemaking techniques of the Old World with the New World and a winery that exudes a sense of place and hospitality reflective of the Napa Valley farming community.

While the winery, located in the legendary Rutherford Bench of world famous Napa Valley, has blossomed, the essence of Alpha Omega has never changed. Presenting world-class wines in a convivial setting remains just as paramount to vintners Robin and Michelle Baggett today as when the owners and former co-founder Eric Sklar first opened the winery’s doors on July 1, 2006.
