"A “wow” wine that will dazzle most Cabernet lovers. It's so rich in blackberries, blueberries, milk chocolate and oaky nougat, it's almost like a candy, except that for all the perceived sweetness, it's dry. The texture is soft enough to drink now." - Wine Enthusiast
"The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Corley Yewell Vineyard shows lovely inner perfume in a mid-weight style that is quite attractive. Plums, tobacco, sweet herbs and licorice wrap around the palate in this round, harmonious Cabernet Sauvignon. This is slightly darker and more powerful than the Tietjen, but not that different." -Wine Advocate"
The 2008 Yewell Vineyard Cabernet from Monticello Vineyards is a juicy and oak forward example from a single source next door to Ehler’s Estate in St Helena. Very well-developed and complex, there's a lovely array of black cherry, cassis, herbs, and chocolate flavors that are displayed across your palate. The tannins a fine and well-knit, indicating that even though the wine is totally enjoyable now, it will cellar for some time. Enjoy now through 2022. - DZ Nov 2016

Thomas Jefferson loved wine. A collector of French wine, he tried to grow grapes and make wine at his Monticello home in Virginia. The doomed experiment none-the-less inspired a similarly minded Jay Corley many decades later.
Jay Corley wrote his MBA thesis on starting a vineyard and winery business while studying at Pepperdine University in Malibu. After enjoying a few years of successful wine business ventures in Southern California he traveled to Napa. There Jay started his winery in 1970, putting his thesis into action and bringing Monticello Vineyards and Corley Estate to life.
Likely the result of ancestral family ties to Virginia and lifelong love of wine, Jay Corley had a bit of a man-crush on Thomas Jefferson. The culmination of this admiration and respect is Corley’s Jefferson House, a one-third scale replica of Jefferson’s Monticello. Jay completed construction on his famed Jefferson House in 1984, which is serenely hidden from the two main roads which run the length of Napa Valley.
Corley Estate is the embodiment of a family run winery. Jay was active in the winery until his mid-eighties when he began to relinquish it to his sons. Those sons; Kevin, Chris, Kent and Stephen Corley, now each play their part in running Corley Estate and maintain the vision and legacy set out by their father.
The Yewell Vineyard on Ehlers Lane in St. Helena is planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon. About a decade ago, Nancy and Dave Yewell acquired this lovely St. Helena property. After farming it for a few years they undertook a massive overhaul of the property and used state of the art trellis design and planting systems to achieve the highest quality from this site. The Cabernet Sauvignon from this vineyard is sublime and in good keeping with the Corley’s strong belief that great wine is made in the vineyard.
The 2008 Corley Yewell Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon will make you swoon with its bouquet of bright strawberry and blackberry aromas which are balanced by rich dark shaved chocolate notes on the palate. The oak is subtle, revealing delicate mocha and coffee hints. The rich texture and well defined tannins frame the wine beautifully and it will age gracefully for years to come.
The mélange of the nose displays a wonderful sense of the true ripeness of the grapes achieved from such a long, cool growing season. On the palate, the wine reveals an elegance and balance that is further evidence of the fully ripened tannins. The wine is rich upon the attack and maintains a full powerful presence on the mid-palate. The richness of the texture is very appealing and the moderate tannins provide just the right structure to frame the wine. The finish is smooth, lingering and mouthwatering.
We are very proud to be a family owned and managed winery. Our father, Jay Corley, came to Napa Valley in 1969 seeking land to plant and grow an estate vineyard. Forty plus years later, sons Kevin, Chris and Stephen manage the winery: Kevin is our Winegrower and President, Chris is our Winemaker, and Stephen is our Director of Wine Sales. We are a small winery producing approximately 15,000 cases of wine annually designated MONTICELLO VINEYARDS, CORLEY RESERVE and CORLEY.
In 1969, our father, Jay Corley, began searching for an appropriate site to grow wine grapes and quickly recognized that the best wines in the United States were made from grapes grown in the Napa Valley. Since his personal interest was in Burgundian-style wines, he chose to initially focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and therefore acquired land in what is now known as the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley in 1970. The Oak Knoll District is in southern Napa Valley, just north of the town of Napa, and with its cooler temperatures, the Oak Knoll District is ideal for growing these varietals.
In 1980, we hired a winemaker to oversee the harvest and crushing of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay grapes for our MONTICELLO VINEYARDS wines. In 1982, we moved into our state of the art winery on our Home Ranch Vineyard and also produced our first CORLEY RESERVE wines. MONTREAUX Brut followed in 1983, Pinot Noir in 1984, Merlot in 1990, CORLEY Proprietary Red Wine in 1999; Cabernet Franc in 2003 and Syrah in 2004.
Our over-riding philosophy is that great wines are made in the vineyards. This is why we have made such a tremendous commitment to ownership of the most suitable land for our grapes. Already satisfied with the strength and quality of our Oak Knoll estates for our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir we set out in pursuit of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the warmer districts of Napa Valley.
Today we farm five vineyards in the Napa Valley - our Home Ranch Vineyard and Knollwood Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District planted to Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah vines and our State Lane Vineyard in Yountville, Tietjen Vineyard on Niebaum Lane in Rutherford and Yewell Vineyard on Ehlers Lane in St. Helena each planted to Cabernet Sauvignon.
