95pts, James Suckling
Pure aromas of raspberries and currants. Medium to full body. Dusty tannins. Lovely, berry and currant aftertaste. Fresh and clean. Drink now or hold.
95pt Cabernet is coming in hot this rainy Monday morning, yes indeed! And not just any ‘ol Cabernet, a beautiful, refined, pure bottling sourced from Napa’s Stags Leap District. This is a marvelous wine. Truly. And for 30% off retail, it’s a bargain for Cab of this calibur. Also…you know Father’s Day is coming up, right? If Dad likes big, nicely structured, vibrant Cabernets worthy of aging in the cellar for a few years, he certainly deserves a couple bottles of this.

The Martin Ray story starts all the way back in 1943 when pioneer vintner Martin Ray began making wine in Saratoga located in the heart of Santa Cruz Mountains (you know, Ridge Monte Bello land). Though his project fizzled after 1972, 1500 cases of his wines were rediscovered in a San Jose warehouse by Courtney Benham who purchase the brand in 1990 and committed to creating “wines of place,” the Ray ideology from the start.
Now for the good stuff, the wine! Oh this lovely red. Bright, graceful, soft tannins, thoroughly approachable and not anything like your big, gristly mountain Cab that needs more time in bottle. This can be enjoyed now or kept tucked away for another 5-10 years. Glass popping notes of ripe bing cherries, raspberries, kirsch and hints of red currants with touches of vanilla, dusty florals, olives, white pepper and warm spice. Savory, fresh, clean and spectacular.
Don’t miss! Our stash is small, and if we know how much you like Cab, this will be gone in a flash. Shipping included on 3+ bottles (just $147 a 3-pack). Get two for Dad and save one for yourself!

Martin Ray was a pioneer, dedicated to crafting single varietal, region specific wine from 1943 through 1972 in Saratoga, in the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Mentored by Paul Masson, he took a burgundian approach to his winemaking, and developed what is now one of the most historical properties in California, known as Mount Eden. Nearly twenty years later, Courtney Benham stumbled upon 1500 cases of Martin Ray wine in a San Jose warehouse. Courtney purchased the brand, and since 1990 has been committed to the production of artisanal wines worthy of the Martin Ray name. In 2003, Martin Ray Vineyards & Winery made its home in the Russian River Valley, on the edge of Green Valley at one of the oldest continually working wineries in California.
