Save wines in your wishlist to show your significant other before you buy... or to send a

Don't worry! we'll send you a reminder if they're close to selling it out.
so you can get more of what you want.
RATINGS BASED ON VALUE close product ratings popup

Beyond including the published ratings from Parker, Spectator, Enthusiast, etc. we believe it's advantageous to include our own ratings for every wine offered. Following a scale similar to the top wine critics' 100 point system, our ratings focus on value (the invino Member price vs. the retail price), and the current state of the wine (what's happening in the bottle now).

So, let's say we have a 91 point Parker rated Napa Cab that retails for $50. And let's say it's been secured for Members at $30. Our rating assumes the $30 price tier. .

Our tasters review wines on the following 100-point scale:
  • 95-100 Classic: a great wine
  • 90-94 Outstanding: a wine of superior character and style
  • 85-89 Very good: a wine with special qualities

REVIEWS

Taut and leathery, this is a thickly tannic, incredibly structured and powerful wine, softened by 7% Merlot and 3% Malbec. Extracted black fruit is poised amongst earthy truffle, crushed rock and black pepper, the aromas and flavors integrated and built to age. --Wine Enthusiast

This shows nice concentration on the nose in terms of ash and blackcurrant but also some pretty floral elements with violets and jasmine. Full-bodied with a strong entrée of black fruit but with driven acidity, muscular tannins and a long finish. A blend of 95% cabernet sauvignon, 3% merlot, 1% malbec and 1% petit verdot. Drink in 2019. -- James Suckling

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five is a fabulous example of the year at its best. Super-ripe red cherry, pomegranate, mint, rose petal and spice infuse this voluptuous, racy Cabernet Sauvignon. Readers looking for a wine to drink with minimal cellaring will find much to admire in this sexy, racy Cabernet. Even with all of its up-front fruit, the 2015 has quite a bit of depth and tannin to support at least a handful of years of fine drinking. -- Vinous

Strikingly complex and engaging, offering tiers of flavor, including dark berry, cedar, graphite and oak, presented in a style that lets the elements speak through the tannins.--Wine Spectator

Doug Shafer grows formidable Cabernets at his family’s estate vineyards, this one clocking in at 15.3 percent alcohol. But it wears that power well, building intensity into a tight structure, offering an immediate impression of elegance. It’s heady with an umeboshi plum scent, and chunky with chocolate-covered-cherry flavors. --Wine & Spirits

A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and 3% Malbec, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five Stags Leap has an earthy/meaty nose, featuring notions of tar and charcuterie over crème de cassis and baked plums plus a hint of licorice. Very big, full-bodied and packed with black fruit preserves in the mouth, it has a chewy backbone and lively lift to the earthy/savory finish. -- Wine Advocate

“Shafer has become one of Napa's most beloved and dependable brands—the wine-world equivalent of Danny Meyer's New York restaurant group,” wrote The Wall Street Journal.

Shafer’s One Point Five bottling gained its name from the father and son duo, John and Doug Shafer, who coined the term as a way to describe their relationship and business partnership. The wine comes from two sites within Stag’s Leap District: the first being their Shafer Hillside Estate Vineyard and the second about 2 miles away. Each year a Cabernet-based blend is created to make a wine filled with dark concentrated fruit, floral notes, leather and herbs. Shafer’s One Point Five is the brilliant little brother of the Shafer's flagship Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select. It packs much of the same beautiful flavors and nuance but at a much friendlier price tag making it a must have in every cellar!

*Available to ship starting November 1, 2018.

TASTING NOTES

2015 Shafer One Point Five is an elegant, silky Cabernet Sauvignon with soft tannins and abundant fruit that is approachable when young, yet capable of aging gracefully. This wine reflects the climate and soils of our Stags Leap District vineyard sites and Shafer’s commitment to meticulous, sustainable farming and quality winemaking.

THE STORY TO KNOW

From the Winery: One Point Five takes its name from the term “a generation and a half,” coined by John and Doug Shafer to describe their long father-and-son partnership. Since 1983 this family team has worked together to manage their Stags Leap District winery. One Point Five is predominately from two Stags Leap District sites — Shafer’s hillside estate vineyard and“Borderline” vineyard located about two miles south of the winery

“The 2015 bursts with bright, energetic aromas and flavors of fresh black cherry, black plum right from the tree, pomegranate, wet slate, peppercorn, lavender, and savory herbs. The flavors have long, beautiful length in the mouth and the wine’s classic Stags Leap District tannins offer structure and promise for delicious things to come in the cellar.”— Shafer winemaker Elias Fernandez

PERFECT PAIRINGS

Butterflied leg of lamb studded with rosemary and garlic.
